About The Position

Mechanical Reps Inc., a member of the AIR Control Concepts family, is the premier manufacturers' representative for HVAC products in Central and South Texas. Founded in 1974, the company provides exceptional products and an unprecedented level of service to engineers, contractors, and facility managers. This role is for a skilled Combination HVAC Start-Up & Service Technician who will join the field service team. This dual-function role combines commercial/industrial HVAC service with dedicated equipment start-up support. In the service capacity, the technician is responsible for installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of large-scale HVAC systems. In the MRi start-up capacity, this individual conducts field installation verifications, performs factory start-ups, delivers owner training, and executes warranty work. The ideal candidate has strong mechanical, electrical, and controls expertise and thrives both working independently and collaborating with the start-up team.

Requirements

  • 5–7+ years of commercial/industrial HVAC experience
  • Demonstrated experience performing preventative maintenance, annuals, and major equipment repairs
  • Hands-on experience with HVAC equipment start-up, commissioning, or factory-authorized procedures preferred
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • EPA Universal Certification (608) required
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, refrigeration cycles, and hydronic systems
  • Experience with cooling towers and condenser systems
  • Experience with pumps, motors, and piping systems
  • Experience with VFDs and building automation / controls systems
  • Experience with airside systems: VAV, AHU, RTU
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documents
  • Proficiency with diagnostic tools and service software
  • Valid Driver's License with clean driving record
  • Must be insurable under company vehicle policy
  • Ability to participate in an on-call rotation

Nice To Haves

  • HVAC controls experience is a plus (BAS, DDC, BACnet, Modbus, etc.)
  • OEM certifications preferred (Trane, Carrier, York, Daikin, or equivalent)

Responsibilities

  • Perform service, preventative maintenance, inspections, and overhauls on boilers, pumps, motors, VFDs, AHUs, FCUs, cooling towers, and HVAC systems
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and control system issues
  • Repair and replace defective components
  • Perform refrigerant handling in full compliance with EPA regulations
  • Conduct advanced diagnostics, pipefitting, brazing, and system repairs
  • Analyze system data, trends, and control performance for optimization
  • Download and configure system programs and controllers
  • Conduct field installation verifications to confirm equipment is properly installed prior to start-up
  • Perform factory start-up procedures for equipment sold by Mechanical Reps (MRi), including Pumps, Boilers, Fans, Variable Frequency Drives, Cooling Towers, Air Handling Units, DOAS Units, Packaged Rooftop Units, VRF Systems, and Humidifiers
  • Troubleshoot commissioning issues in coordination with the MRi start-up team and equipment manufacturers
  • Deliver owner/operator training on new equipment — covering proper operation, maintenance schedules, and control interfaces
  • Execute warranty service and repairs for MRi-represented equipment within the warranty period
  • Serve as a knowledgeable field liaison between MRi, installing contractors, and end customers
  • Build strong customer relationships and communicate service findings and start-up results clearly
  • Educate customers on system operation and maintenance best practices
  • Mentor and support junior technicians; assist in training and development
  • Coordinate work on larger projects and lead multi-technician jobs
  • Complete service documentation, start-up reports, and time tracking accurately and on time
  • Adhere to OSHA, company safety standards, and jobsite hazard assessments
  • Maintain service vehicle, tools, and inventory
  • Participate in on-call rotation as required
