About The Position

Vertical Mechanical Group (VMG) is a leading mechanical contractor specializing in commercial HVAC, Plumbing, Controls, and Mechanical Services. VMG is looking for an experienced Commercial HVAC Service Technician to join their Service team. This role is responsible for troubleshooting, servicing, maintaining, and repairing commercial HVAC systems while providing responsive, professional service to customers. The ideal candidate is a skilled HVAC professional with strong troubleshooting abilities who can work independently, communicate effectively with customers, and identify the right solutions to keep complex building systems operating safely and efficiently.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of commercial HVAC service, maintenance, or repair experience
  • Strong knowledge of commercial HVAC and mechanical systems
  • Experience troubleshooting mechanical and electrical HVAC issues
  • Working knowledge of HVAC controls and system operations
  • Ability to read wiring diagrams, schematics, mechanical drawings, and technical documentation
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in the field
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to safely lift and handle equipment, tools, and materials required for the position
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record

Nice To Haves

  • EPA Universal Certification
  • Journeyman HVAC license
  • Experience with rooftop units, air-handling units, chillers, boilers, pumps, and commercial HVAC equipment
  • Experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS) and HVAC controls
  • Manufacturer or factory training on commercial HVAC equipment
  • Experience servicing multiple equipment manufacturers
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
  • Experience working in large commercial or mission-critical facilities

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, service, maintain, and repair commercial HVAC and mechanical systems
  • Perform preventive maintenance to improve equipment reliability, efficiency, and service life
  • Service equipment including rooftop units, air-handling units, chillers, boilers, pumps, and related HVAC systems
  • Inspect equipment and identify mechanical, electrical, and operational issues
  • Complete repairs and component replacements according to manufacturer and industry standards
  • Verify proper system operation following service and repair work
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and HVAC control issues
  • Read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, equipment manuals, and technical documentation
  • Use diagnostic tools and testing equipment to identify system problems
  • Determine the root cause of equipment failures and performance issues
  • Recommend appropriate repair, replacement, or system improvement options
  • Identify potential problems before they result in major equipment failures or downtime
  • Respond to scheduled service calls and emergency service requests
  • Communicate clearly with customers regarding equipment condition, repairs, and recommendations
  • Explain technical issues and available solutions in a professional and understandable manner
  • Build strong customer relationships through dependable, responsive service
  • Coordinate with Service Managers, Dispatchers, other Technicians, and internal teams to resolve customer needs
  • Represent VMG professionally at customer facilities and project locations
  • Follow VMG, OSHA, manufacturer, and customer safety requirements
  • Maintain accurate service tickets, work orders, equipment information, and repair documentation
  • Document labor, materials, parts, system conditions, and recommendations
  • Properly maintain company tools, equipment, and vehicles
  • Maintain clean and safe work areas
  • Participate in on-call or after-hours service rotations as required
