About The Position

Air Engineers is seeking an experienced Commercial HVAC Sales Engineer to support the growth of our commercial and variable refrigerant flow (VRF) business. This position combines technical HVAC expertise with consultative sales and will work closely with mechanical contractors, engineers, owners, architects, and other industry partners to develop effective HVAC solutions for commercial applications. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with VRF system design, application, selection, or sales, with Mitsubishi Electric CITY MULTI experience strongly preferred. This individual should be comfortable reviewing construction documents, developing equipment selections and system solutions, providing technical guidance, preparing proposals, and helping customers successfully apply VRF technology. This is an excellent opportunity for an HVAC professional who enjoys both the technical and relationship-building sides of the business and wants to play a key role in growing a specialized product segment.

Requirements

  • Experience with commercial HVAC systems, with demonstrated knowledge of VRF/VRV technology.
  • Experience in HVAC sales, applications engineering, mechanical design, estimating, project management, or a similar technical role.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical plans, specifications, equipment schedules, and construction documents.
  • Working knowledge of HVAC fundamentals including heating and cooling loads, refrigeration principles, airflow, controls, and commercial system applications.
  • Ability to understand technical information and communicate it effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong consultative selling, problem-solving, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to providing excellent customer service.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn manufacturer-specific selection and design software.

Nice To Haves

  • Direct experience with Mitsubishi Electric CITY MULTI VRF systems.
  • Experience designing, selecting, selling, commissioning, or supporting heat pump and heat recovery VRF systems.
  • Familiarity with VRF controls and building automation integration.
  • Experience working with mechanical contractors and consulting engineers on commercial projects.
  • Experience with HVAC equipment selection/design software.
  • Knowledge of commercial construction processes, specifications, submittals, and project bidding.
  • Mitsubishi product or application training is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and promote VRF solutions for commercial HVAC projects.
  • Review mechanical plans, specifications, schedules, and project requirements to identify equipment and application needs.
  • Assist customers with VRF system design, equipment selection, system configuration, and application questions.
  • Develop accurate equipment selections, quotations, and project proposals.
  • Provide technical guidance regarding VRF heat pump and heat recovery applications, indoor unit selection, controls, zoning, and system integration.
  • Assist customers in evaluating VRF solutions against traditional HVAC system alternatives.
  • Identify potential design or application issues and work collaboratively with customers to develop practical solutions.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with mechanical contractors, consulting engineers, owners, developers, and other key market partners.
  • Serve as a knowledgeable technical resource throughout the sales and project development process.
  • Identify new project opportunities and actively develop the VRF sales pipeline.
  • Support engineers and design professionals during system evaluation, equipment selection, and specification development.
  • Conduct product presentations, technical discussions, and training for customers and industry partners.
  • Develop a strong understanding of customer needs and recommend solutions that balance performance, application requirements, cost, and long-term value.
  • Coordinate with customers and internal teams from initial project development through order and delivery.
  • Review project documentation for alignment between proposed equipment and project requirements.
  • Support submittal development and technical documentation.
  • Assist with equipment revisions, value-engineering opportunities, and project changes.
  • Work collaboratively with inside sales, operations, manufacturers, and other team members to provide a high level of customer support.
  • Maintain accurate project, quotation, and customer information within applicable company systems.
