About The Position

Dan’s Overhead Doors & More is hiring a full-time, onsite Commercial Garage Door Technician in Des Moines, Iowa. The technician installs, maintains, and repairs commercial products, including garage doors and dock equipment, while delivering quality service and customer satisfaction. The role involves identifying mechanical and electrical failures, performing preventive maintenance, managing truck inventory and tools, documenting work and payments, and maintaining a safe work environment at the warehouse and job sites.

The schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with an on-call rotation based on headcount. Some weekend and overtime work may be needed, along with occasional out-of-town travel for work orders or training. Work takes place in a non-climate-controlled environment and may involve all weather conditions, frequent sitting, standing, bending, lifting up to 75 pounds, and working at heights on ladders and lifts.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• At least 3 years of experience in garage door service or installation, or a similar skilled trade industry.
• General knowledge of construction, electrical work, and hand tools.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Acceptable motor vehicle record (MVR) to be added to the company’s auto insurance policy.
• Personal handheld tools.
• Ability to pass pre-employment screening, including a drug test and background check.
• Reliable transportation to and from the warehouse.
• Ability to arrive on time according to schedules and customer appointments.
• Willingness to learn.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Customer service-oriented mindset and adaptability to a changing work environment.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

• Install commercial garage door products and related systems according to manufacturers’ specifications and ensure customer satisfaction with completed work.
• Identify and repair mechanical and electrical failures.
• Perform preventive maintenance services.
• Maintain inventory on the company truck and understand the proper use of parts and tools.
• Document services performed, amounts owed or paid, and outstanding items required to complete jobs.
• Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment at the warehouse and job sites.
