About The Position

This vacancy is in the Sanitation/Beautification department. The Commercial Front-End Driver classification is safety sensitive, subject to random drug testing in accordance with the County’s Drug & Alcohol Policy. Essential Functions include collecting and transporting containers filled with waste or recyclable materials, which may weigh in excess of 1,000 pounds and require maneuvering wheeled containers into designated pick-up areas. Drivers must safely navigate high-traffic and congested roadways, driveways, alleyways, and parking lots, requiring advanced backing and maneuvering skills. Roll-off Drivers are responsible for preparing, loading, transporting, and unloading large open-top and compactor containers from customer locations, potentially operating in areas with limited overhead clearance on industrial routes. Grapple Drivers operate grapple trucks to collect and transport debris, brush, logs, and other materials, including safely loading and unloading materials using the grapple arm. Daily vehicle inspections are required to ensure safe operating conditions, and maintenance or repair needs must be reported promptly. Drivers must follow all safety procedures and traffic laws, communicate effectively with supervisors and team members, maintain accurate records of routes, loads, and work performed, and assist with general yard and equipment maintenance as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Two years of experience in the operation of heavy trucks and/or off-road construction equipment or a related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia Class B Commercial Driver’s License.
  • Some assignments may require a Georgia Class A Commercial Driver’s License and/or special endorsements.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid 12-month DOT Medical Blue Card as a condition of employment for some departments.

Responsibilities

  • Collecting and transporting containers filled with waste or recyclable materials.

  • Maintaining accurate records of routes, loads, and work performed.
  • Assisting with general yard and equipment maintenance as needed.
