Analyzes commercial and multi-family blueprints and other documentation to develop a materials list and cost estimate. These estimates are used by sales for bidding purposes and to confirm construction and labor costs on contract jobs. The role involves receiving information on required materials, reviewing complex blueprints and drawings, resolving issues with the Project Manager and/or customer, and using estimating software to determine measurements for various building components. The Commercial Estimator also assists the sales department with material information, maintains pricing data, determines optimal use of stock material, computes cost factors for management purposes, consults with clients and vendors, and may advise contractors on engineering and cost-reduction strategies. Additionally, this role provides training and guidance to less experienced Estimators.
