About The Position

Altman Air Conditioning – Service is a full-service HVAC provider serving the Palm Beach, Florida area and surrounding regions. Headquartered in Lake Park, Florida, we specialize in the installation, maintenance, and optimization of complex mechanical systems across industrial, institutional, and multi-site environments. Our expertise spans a wide range of equipment, including large-tonnage rooftop units, split systems, VRF/VRV technology, chillers, boilers, ventilation systems, building automation controls, and energy-management solutions. We partner with facility managers, general contractors, and commercial clients to deliver reliable system performance, minimize downtime, and ensure compliance with industry standards including ASHRAE, OSHA, EPA Section 608, and manufacturer specifications. Our service approach prioritizes accurate diagnostics, root-cause analysis, and long-term operational efficiency — backed by a team committed to high-quality workmanship and continuous growth.

Requirements

  • 8–10+ years of hands-on experience repairing and maintaining centrifugal chillers
  • Strong working knowledge of centrifugal compressor theory, lubrication systems, economizers, and capacity control
  • Proven experience with major overhauls and bearing/seal replacements
  • EPA Section 608 Universal Certification [required]
  • Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, sequence of operations, and manufacturer service literature
  • Valid Driver's License and clean driving record
  • Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and communicate clearly with customers and internal teams
  • Willingness to respond to after-hours emergency calls on a rotating basis

Nice To Haves

  • Florida HVAC or Mechanical Contractor experience [preferred]; ability to work under a licensed contractor
  • Experience with common BAS interfaces [BACnet, Niagara, etc.] is a plus
  • Manufacturer factory training [Trane, Carrier, York, Daikin, etc. a plus]
  • Experience with magnetic bearing [oil-free] centrifugal chillers [a plus]
  • Vibration analysis or infrared thermography experience [a plus]
  • Prior leadership or lead technician experience [a plus]

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, repair, and overhaul centrifugal chillers including Trane, Carrier, York/Johnson Controls, Daikin, and similar manufacturers
  • Perform major component replacements including compressors, motors, gears, bearings, seals, oil pumps, purge units, and heat exchangers
  • Conduct refrigerant recovery, evacuation, charging, and leak testing in accordance with EPA Section 608 requirements
  • Troubleshoot electrical controls, starters, VFDs, sensors, and BAS interfaces related to chiller operation
  • Perform oil analysis, vibration analysis, eddy-current testing coordination, and performance evaluations
  • Execute annual and multi-year planned maintenance programs
  • Document work clearly including service reports, findings, recommendations, and parts used
  • Work safely at height, in mechanical rooms, and on rooftops while following all company and OSHA safety protocols
  • Coordinate with project managers, controls technicians, and customers on job status and recommendations
  • Provide technical guidance and on-the-job training to service technicians as needed
