About The Position

Assigned to our Commercial Auto APD team, the Claim Representative is responsible for prompt review of insurance claims through effective research, evaluation, investigation, negotiation and interaction with insureds and claimants. The Claims Representative is often assigned to least complex, severe and/or smaller claims in the Line of Business. Maintains a solid understanding of AmTrust’s mission, vision, and values. Upholds the standards of the AmTrust and Claims organization. Please note that this role works 4 days in office and 1 day remote out of either Dallas, TX; Melville, NY; Scottsdale, AZ; or Southington, CT.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • State licensure
  • 1-3 years claims handling experience
  • Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office suites
  • Demonstrated skills in investigation, evaluation and negotiation
  • Knowledge of insurance theory and practices
  • 3+ years of commercial auto experience, working with the auto repair process, auto damage appraisals, and vehicle valuations.
  • Ability to manage time, multi-task, prioritize, and excel in fast-paced work environment
  • Strong customer service skills and the ability to communicate effectively and clearly with many different parties (customer, repair facility, other carrier, etc.)
  • Good analytical abilities to review, exercise judgment and evaluate claims in order to make sound decisions
  • Strong knowledge of claim procedures, policies, state and federal laws and insurance regulations

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of Commercial Auto, Garage Keepers, and total loss experience
  • Ability to travel is for some positions
  • Experience in specialty areas such as Inland Marine and Garagekeepers’ a plus

Responsibilities

  • Investigates the claim or coverage by making timely and appropriate contact with involved or interested parties including but not limited to the insured or employer representatives, claimant, witnesses and producers.
  • Verifies coverage and policy conditions.
  • Reviews coverage issues as needed with supervisor.
  • Typically utilizes standardized language to draft positions if needed.
  • Depending on the type of claim may interact internally with Subrogation, Managed Care or SIU or externally with police or others to get information.
  • Establishes reserves based on estimating most likely outcome of a claim based on the facts for the case and company standard.
  • Adjusts reserves based on fact, company standard and experience.
  • Effectively settles and negotiates non-litigated claims.
  • Builds critical thinking and decision-making skills to gather, assess, analyze, question, verify, interpret and understand key or root issues.
  • Establishes and maintains effective relationships with customers and gains their respect and trust.
  • Demonstrates ability to learn technical materials and learns from mistakes in order to achieve best possible outcomes for claimant, customer and company.
  • Writes in a clear, succinct and fact-based manner in Claims files as well as in other communication.
  • Manages time and diary entries effectively and efficiently, prioritizing work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Performs other functional duties as assigned.
  • Handles Auto Physical Damage (APD) claims including, but not limited to effective claim investigation, coverage analysis, damage evaluation, proactive claim action planning, negotiation and resolution.
  • Responsible for medium to complex claims involving multiple parties, liability decisions, jurisdictional statutes, and additional exposures.
  • Will also assist in any litigated files and arbitration hearings.
  • Gathers information and documentation such as witness statements, police and location investigation, photographs, appraisals/estimates of damages.
  • Determines the appropriate appraisal channel to utilize based on the facts of the case.
  • Calculates the number of rental days needed and works with repair and rental facilities to manage the amount of time.
  • Understands and complies with state requirements with written/oral communication, liability, and the rules of the road.
  • Determines when a vehicle is a total loss and ensures successful transition to Total Loss team after securing pertinent information.
  • Coordinates with Core claim handling team on claims involving property damage and bodily injury.
  • May handle specialty areas such as Garagekeepers' and Inland Marine claims.
  • Assists with onboarding, training, and mentoring new hires.
