This entry-level/early-career engineering position applies thermal and fluid sciences to combustion and emissions systems. The engineer uses analytical and experimental methods to investigate system and component performance, understand causal mechanisms, support product and architecture decisions, and contribute to effective, competitive, environmentally friendly products. The role includes developing technical content and resolving product, system, and technology problems with guidance from experienced team members. The position involves working with systems performance engineers on emissions robustness, deficiency removal and agency approval, Product Problem Solving (PPS), Value Package Change Requests (VPCR), and Proactive Product Improvement (PPI). The engineer will collaborate with functions including OBD, certification and compliance, controls, and subject matter experts, representing systems performance integration (SPI). Work may cover engine, aftertreatment, controls, and OBD; include running a test cell as needed; and involve evaluating field-test data after changes are applied to test vehicles. The role combines system and data analysis with experimental work, including engine testing of instrumented current-product engines, supporting solutions to current-product issues, and optimizing system performance in a test cell. The engineer applies established work processes independently while continuing to develop product and technology knowledge, and contributes to improvements in systems and processes. The role may involve coordinating work with technicians or temporary student employees, and may span multiple projects requiring prioritization and cross-functional communication.
