About The Position

The incumbent filling this position will serve at the rank of Research Scientist or Senior Research Scientist, have significant experience as a Project Management Professional (PMP), and will lead day-to-day operations of a large, translational research program spanning preclinical and clinical research activities. This is a full-time (1.0 FTE) faculty position in a fast-paced environment supported by federal funding. Work will occur primarily on campus (in-person). The incumbent will work alongside a highly collaborative multi-disciplinary team of clinician-investigators, preclinical researchers, regulatory experts, analysts and programmers, professional research assistants, and other research staff. The incumbent will be a full-time member of the Department of Emergency Medicine and will support research and development related to hemorrhage and resuscitation. The incumbent will work under supervision of the COMBAT Medicine Research Center (COMBAT) Senior Director/Program Principal Investigator (PI). COMBAT focuses on creating and executing acute care research to fulfill the needs of the U.S. military and our Colorado communities. COMBAT facilitates the execution of collaborative combat and deployment-relevant research by fostering relationships among military scientists, clinical investigators, combat leaders, and field operators to produce successful innovations, materiel solutions, and knowledge products of high impact to the warfighter and the medics. The successful candidate will have demonstrated expertise in program management and relevant expertise in translational science, public health, epidemiology, health-related science, or a related field. They will have a passion for collaborative research (team science), will be detail oriented, and contribute to development of detailed research plans and interpretation of data. In addition, the candidate should be able to work independently and manage a portfolio of concurrent projects, with excellent written and oral communication skills to contribute to program reports, presentations, and scientific writing. The job requires in-person duties and will be performed on the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, CO. Domestic travel may be intermittently required to attend domestic scientific conferences/meetings or to present to stakeholder groups. This role is contingent on award funding.

Requirements

  • Masters degree in translational research, public health, project management, or related field (Research Scientist)
  • At least two years of experience working in project management role at an academic medical or research, biotechnology research and development, or contract research organization setting (Research Scientist)
  • Doctoral Degree in translational science, public health, epidemiology, health-related science, or related field (Senior Research Scientist)
  • At least four years of experience working in project management role at an academic medical or research, biotechnology research and development, or contract research organization setting (Senior Research Scientist)

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Translate high-level research program objectives into detailed plans and timelines to align to funding sponsor goals
  • Facilitate collaboration across multidisciplinary research teams and leadership, ensuring program activities are executed in accordance with timelines and budgets
  • Identify internal and external risks to research program success, including internal and external factors, and develop mitigation strategies
  • Communicate with external stakeholders including federal sponsors, regulatory bodies, and other academic/industry partners
  • Support development and execution of agreements with program associated partners
  • Work with department and program finance teams to track and project costs
  • Ensure appropriate milestone documentation is complete
  • Manage reporting requirements
  • Assist data collection, analysis, and reporting
  • Exercise more autonomy in duties (Senior Research Scientist)
  • Assume larger managerial roles in overall program execution (Senior Research Scientist)
  • Undertake a larger role in directly interfacing with program funding sponsor and other external stakeholders and representing the program at high level engagements (Senior Research Scientist)
