College Intern – HR Communications/Data

About The Position

As part of Human Resources, the employee communications team provides creative support to programs and change initiatives that make the Port a great place to work. We create, maintain, and publish content to channels through which information flows across the organization. We also work closely with the HR Data team to produce data visualizations, reports, and technical solutions to communications challenges. Our work connects employees to important news, events, information, resources, and opportunities that are essential to a rich employee experience. You will assist the HR Communications and HR Data teams across a variety of related tasks and projects. Your duties may include: Collecting, organizing, analyzing, and visualizing data for the comprehensive HR Annual Report. Publishing events, articles, and pages on the employee intranet website, SharePoint sites, and other channels. Designing branded communications materials, including documents, forms, flyers, infographics, and presentations. Designing apps and workflows with Microsoft Power Apps and Power Automate. Assisting with employee-centered journalism, photography, and videography projects. Providing administrative support to various HR-led programs and events. In addition to gaining valuable experience with communications tools, techniques, and strategies, you will get a firsthand look at the operations of a highly active human resources department that supports all aspects of the employee experience, including recruiting, development, benefits, safety, culture, and employee relations.

Requirements

  • Must be currently enrolled in or a recent graduate from a 2–4-year undergraduate degree program (< 1 year ago).
  • Will apply an equity lens to your work, behaviors, and practices.
  • Familiar with best practices in data definition, collection, validation, analysis, and presentation.
  • Academic or early professional experience processing and visualizing data in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Power BI, Tableau, or similar applications.
  • Creative, clear communicator who puts audience and customers’ needs first, and knows how to translate complex information to lay audiences.
  • Meticulous with attention to detail and accuracy, an eye for aesthetics, and holds work to high standards.
  • Eager to learn, excited by trying new tools, learning new skills, and taking on new responsibilities.
  • Resilient optimist who looks for creative, constructive solutions when obstacles or problems arise.
  • Organized and proactive with experience prioritizing and completing multiple, simultaneous projects.
  • Track record of successfully meeting tight deadlines and staying ahead of the to-do list.

  • Some early experience creating workflows in Power Automate or apps in Power Apps.
