About The Position

This is a paid internship program. This internship places a large emphasis on GIS data management, but the intern will also assist Land Resources staff with a variety of land management activities in the field. The internship will take place at District Headquarters (DHQ) located at 4049 Reid St, Palatka, FL 32177, but the intern will have the opportunity to assist at many of the conservation areas owned by the District. A key focus of this internship will be supporting the District's land treatments database overhaul, including quality review and input of historic treatment records in our ArcGIS Online land management database. The intern will aid in field and software testing of a new GPS-based spray logging system before it is deployed to field crews. The intern will also have the opportunity to work alongside DHQ staff on a wide variety of land management activities such as forestry related data collection and management review tour (MRT) preparation.

Requirements

• Must be a college or university student currently enrolled in a degree-seeking program.
• Must be either attending classes or participating in a work experience program sanctioned by their school.
• Must be at least a junior level (senior level preferred).
• Must be studying in a related field.
• Must maintain a 2.5 GPA or higher.

Responsibilities

• Support the District's land treatments database overhaul, including quality review and input of historic treatment records in our ArcGIS Online land management database.
• Aid in field and software testing of a new GPS-based spray logging system.
• Assist Land Resources staff with a variety of land management activities in the field.
• Work alongside DHQ staff on a wide variety of land management activities such as forestry related data collection and management review tour (MRT) preparation.
• Produce report/presentation to highlight accomplishments.
