About The Position

BelovED seeks to add a College Counselor to its team of student support professionals to help our high school students develop a college and/or career vision for their lives, together with a plan of how best to use their remaining time in high school to realize this personal vision.

Requirements

  • Candidates must hold a School Counselor CE, CEAS or Standard license from the New Jersey Department of Education.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the advisor for 11th and 12th grade students regarding the college admissions process
  • Provide specialized post-secondary guidance for students looking for alternative post-graduation opportunities
  • Assist the senior class in preparing and submitting college applications and financial aid/EOF documentation.
  • Develop and hold family workshops related to FAFSA and the college admissions process
  • Assist in facilitating conversations with families about programs such as EOF/EOP, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), etc.
  • Manage, track and report student data applicable to college applications, including, but not limited to testing data, graduation requirements, enrichment and volunteer opportunities
  • Communicate to students, staff, and families about college admissions, financial aid, upcoming events, representative site visits, scholarship opportunities, and more throughout the school year
  • Develop external communications with colleges and universities in hope of building and sustaining partnerships
  • Manage incoming college and enrichment site visit requests by prioritizing, researching and responding to responses as needed
  • Maintain staff, family and stakeholder confidence and protect operations by keeping student and programming information confidential.
  • Coordinate scheduling of college tours, fairs, and additional college events as needed
  • Coordinate scheduling of summer enrichment and volunteer opportunity presentations for all BCCS students
  • Coordinate the logistics for representative site visits, events and enrichment presentations
  • Coordinate the logistics for special college office events such as college tours/fairs, family workshops, etc.
  • Participate in some events outside of normal school hours such as family nights, student performances, field trips, and teacher–parent conferences
  • Participate in planning and professional development activities
  • Coordinate program for juniors and seniors to take college level classes on a college campus for credit
  • Prepare and teach College Readiness courses by creating weekly lesson plans and by tracking students’ progress through assessments, weekly homework assignments and classwork reflections.
  • Develop College Readiness curriculum to prepare students for college application process
  • Create and implement exciting classroom systems to develop students’ awareness around professionalism and college-readiness.
  • Correspond with students and families on a bi-weekly basis regarding the academic performance and growth exhibited by the student.
