About The Position

Under the general direction of the Executive Director, the Student Engagement Coordinator leads and supports the student experience for the SF State College Corps Fellowship, with primary responsibility for Fellow engagement, retention, and success. The role applies independent judgment to assess student needs, monitor engagement patterns, and implement strategies that support persistence and program completion. The coordinator executes recruitment and outreach activities in alignment with Program Lead direction, facilitates orientation and onboarding from a student experience perspective, and designs and delivers Team Circles, trainings, professional development, and closeout activities. The position provides ongoing support to Fellows, monitors participation and attendance, and identifies concerns that may affect learning or retention. Working closely with campus and community partners, the coordinator strengthens the quality of the Fellow experience and ensures engagement efforts align with program goals. The role collaborates with the Program Lead and Operations Coordinator to ensure engagement activities, documentation timelines, and compliance processes remain aligned.

Requirements

  • General knowledge and skills in the applicable administrative and/or program field with a foundational knowledge of public administration principles, practices, and methods. This foundation would normally be obtained through a bachelor's degree and/or equivalent training and administrative work experience involving study, analysis, and/or evaluation leading to the development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices, or programs.
  • Working knowledge of and ability to apply standard theories, principles, practices, techniques applicable to the program and/or administrative specialty to develop conclusions and make recommendations
  • Working knowledge of general practices, program, and/or administrative specialty. Basic knowledge of and ability to apply fundamental concepts. Working knowledge of budget policies and procedures.
  • Ability to learn, interpret, and apply a wide variety of policies and procedures relating to and impacting the applicable program, organizational unit, and/or administrative specialty.
  • Knowledge of basic methods and procedures for research and statistical analysis and the ability to apply them.
  • Ability to analyze data and make accurate projections using business mathematics and basic statistical techniques.
  • Ability to organize and plan work and projects including handling multiple priorities.
  • Ability to make independent decisions and exercise sound judgment.
  • Ability to compile, write, and present reports related to program or administrative specialty.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within and outside the work group and serve as a liaison for the organizational unit.

  • Experience working with community-based organizations or nonprofit agencies, including volunteer management, placement coordination, or supervision of service participants.

Responsibilities

  • Leads recruitment, outreach, and selection activities for new Fellows, including information sessions, classroom visits, and tabling, in alignment with Program Lead guidance.
  • Develops recruitment materials, outreach communications, and presentation content in alignment with Program Lead guidance.
  • Leads classroom presentations, tabling efforts, and campus outreach activities to support recruitment and visibility.
  • Leads orientation, onboarding, and closeout sessions from a student experience perspective.
  • Serves as the primary point of contact for Fellows and provides clear guidance on expectations, deadlines, and participation requirements.
  • Builds and maintains positive relationships with Fellows and fosters an environment that supports belonging and persistence.
  • Conducts regular check-ins to track progress, attendance, and service hours, and identifies retention concerns with recommended support or interventions.
  • Facilitates Team Circles, reflection sessions, and community building activities.
  • Coordinates with the Operations Coordinator to ensure engagement timelines and documentation requirements remain aligned.
  • Designs and facilitates student focused professional development activities aligned with College Corps learning goals and Program Lead direction.
  • Leads Fellow training for outreach, tabling, presentations, and campus engagement activities.
  • Develops training materials, schedules, and communication for student learning activities.
  • Coordinates logistics for orientations, workshops, Team Circles, and learning sessions.
  • Implements and coordinates content and logistics for the California Volunteers Mid-Year Leadership Workshop in alignment with Program Lead direction.
  • Partners with campus units and community partners to bring speakers, activities, and leadership learning opportunities to Fellows.
  • Prepares Fellows to represent College Corps through structured training and reflection prior to outreach and recruitment activities.
  • Plans and coordinates student engagement opportunities such as Days of Service, service projects, community events, and social activities that strengthen belonging and engagement.
  • Reviews and approves Fellow attendance, absences, and service hours in America Learns to confirm accuracy, eligibility, and alignment with program expectations and established system permissions.
  • Monitors attendance, service hours, and participation trends to identify engagement or retention concerns and determine appropriate intervention strategies.
  • Follows up with Fellows on missing, late, or inaccurate time entries related to attendance, absences, and service hours.
  • Flags discrepancies, potential compliance risks, or repeated issues and refers corrective action decisions to the Program Lead.
  • Prepares summaries and draft reports for the Program Lead to support assessment and required submissions.
  • Coordinates with the Operations Coordinator to ensure approved attendance and service hours are complete and ready for compliance review and stipend processing.
  • Conducts assessments of student learning and uses results to improve engagement programming.
  • Builds and maintains working relationships with host site supervisors focused on Fellow engagement and day-to-day communication.
  • Serves as the primary point of contact for routine questions related to Fellow attendance, performance, and day to day expectations.
  • Communicates attendance, performance, or engagement concerns and collaborates with partners on early intervention strategies.
  • Identifies and escalates repeated, complex, or corrective issues to the Program Lead for guidance or action.
  • Coordinates with the Operations Coordinator on partner related documentation, timelines, and compliance touchpoints as needed.
  • Leads outreach activities and campus presence to support College Corps recruitment and visibility.
  • Represents ICCE and College Corps at events and meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned
