About The Position

Under general supervision, but following established policies and procedures, telephone or mail collection notices to delinquent accounts in an effort to resolve the delinquent status. Maintains related records and summaries of delinquent account activity. Is responsible for maintaining delinquent accounts at acceptable levels and must possess the interpersonal skills to discuss sensitive financial situations in a tactful manner to resolve the delinquent status and yet maintain positive member relations. Performs duties and responsibilities in accordance with The Apple Way principles, of Team Up, Serve With Purpose, Challenge Yourself and Own It. Remains cognizant of and adheres to credit union policies and procedures, and regulations pertaining to the Bank Secrecy Act. Performs other related duties as assigned by the Collection Manager.

Requirements

  • One year to three years of similar or related experience.
  • A high school education or GED.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to deal with difficult members, resolve problems and work well under pressure.
  • Possess specific knowledge of credit and lending policies and procedures.
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Excellent telephone and written communications skills.
  • The ability to lift 25 lbs. and utilize standard office equipment including, but not limited to, PC, fax, copier, telephone, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Counsels members with delinquent loans and credit cards using specific knowledge of Apple FCU guidelines, NCUA policies, as well as the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act to maintain good relationships with delinquent members and yet avoid losses.
  • Establishes and maintains related delinquent loan accounts, to include but not limited to, obtaining updated member information (i.e. addresses, telephone numbers and employment).
  • Prepares necessary documentation to submit to attorneys, repossession agencies, foreclosure and skip-trace agencies.
  • Reviews and investigates payment reports to resolve member disputes.
  • Processes extension agreements and legal documents for re-financing of delinquent loans. Submit to Credit Committee for review.
  • Process delinquent accounts handled by CCCS or other credit counseling agencies.
