About The Position

This is an unpaid fellowship through the Department of War (DoW) SkillBridge Program. The fellow selected for this role will not receive compensation or benefits from GDIT and will not be an employee, agent or contractor of GDIT but rather will remain an employee of the DoW and will receive compensation and benefits through the DoW. The fellowship offers transitioning service members the opportunity to gain hands‑on training and professional experience as a Training Specialist Senior Fellow, supporting Army Mission Command training delivery, Fires Warfighting Function (WfF) integration, command post operations, and collective training execution across Battalion to Corps echelons. In this Fellowship, the participant will gain exposure to mission command systems, collective training event design, the Military Decision‑Making Process (MDMP), operational planning, After Action Review (AAR) development, and instructor‑led training inside a high‑fidelity Mission Command Training Center environment. The Fellow will train alongside experienced Observer/Controller‑Trainers, Fires enterprise instructors, and Mission Command professionals to build foundational expertise in Fires planning, targeting, Command and Control (C2) integration, and collective training methodologies for critical staff roles. The Training Specialist Senior Fellow will learn how advanced mission command training is developed, delivered, assessed, and modernized—while contributing to scenario design, Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) development, exercise execution, doctrinal updates, AAR production, and staff mentorship within MCTC’s high‑demand training mission.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree OR an equivalent combination of military experience, professional military education, technical training, and relevant certifications.
5+ years of experience in Fires, operational planning, or Mission Command staff operations.
Experience conducting or supporting collective training events, command post operations, or Battalion‑plus level staff processes.
Prior service as a Battalion‑level Fire Support Officer (FSO) or Targeting Officer in a maneuver or Fires unit.
Experience applying Fires within the Military Decision‑Making Process (MDMP).
Strong understanding of Fires, Command and Control (C2), and their interdependencies with all other Warfighting Functions (WfFs).
Ability to deliver and support training in high‑tempo operational or exercise environments.
Demonstrated understanding of Fires planning, targeting processes, operational frameworks, and staff synchronization.
Experience contributing to AAR development, training assessments, and doctrinally aligned observations.
Strong communication, facilitation, and mentoring skills aligned with staff development and professional military education.
Ability to work collaboratively within multi‑disciplinary teams supporting Army collective training.
Active Secret clearance required.
U.S. Citizenship required.
On‑site attendance at customer site in Fort Hood, TX.
Fellowship duration aligned with DoW SkillBridge requirements.
Ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
DoW SkillBridge Eligibility: Has served at least 180 days on active duty
DoW SkillBridge Eligibility: Can participate within the last 6 months of separation or retirement
DoW SkillBridge Eligibility: Will receive an honorable discharge
DoW SkillBridge Eligibility: Has taken any service TAP/TGPS
DoW SkillBridge Eligibility: Has attended or participated in an ethics brief within the last 12 months
DoW SkillBridge Eligibility: Received Unit Commander (first O-4/Field Grade commander in chain of command) written authorization and approval to participate in DoW SkillBridge Program prior to start of the fellowship.

Responsibilities

Participate in classroom instruction, command post exercises, and scenario‑based training supporting Fires planning, targeting, and MDMP execution.
Support collective training events from Battalion through Corps, including planning conferences, rehearsal events, and live or simulated execution phases.
Observe unit staff performance and assist in the assessment of decision‑making, synchronization across warfighting functions, and staff processes during Mission Command exercises.
Contribute to lesson plan development, scenario updates, instructor guides, and training support materials aligned with doctrinal standards.
Support modernization initiatives including SOP development, training material revisions, course updates, and training solution improvements.
Assist in developing, maintaining, and delivering Mission Command and Fires training programs aligned with Mission Command Training Center requirements.
Help establish and review learning objectives, staff training criteria, and overall instructional effectiveness measures.
Participate in instructor‑led staff training sessions, track unit performance, and maintain training documentation for supported organizations.
Maintain awareness of emerging Fires capabilities, mission command technologies, doctrine updates, and Army training modernization initiatives.
Support Observer/Controller‑Trainer functions, exercise control activities, and AAR development under supervision.
Provide instructional and administrative support to the Site Lead or Senior Trainer as assigned.
