About The Position

Join Zeal Credit Union as a full-time Collections Specialist and immerse yourself in a dynamic, onsite role based at our corporate headquarters in Livonia, MI. We're seeking a professional and empathetic Collections Specialist to support members through their unique financial challenges. You'll engage with members in a respectful, understanding manner, recognizing that every financial situation is unique. Your ability to listen, empathize, and collaborate on workable solutions are essential to our member-centered approach. This position provides credit analysis and debt management counseling to improve members' financial lives by establishing savings plans, minimizing debt, or preventing collections action. Experience in collections and working through forbearance modifications or related legal processes as an alternative to traditional collection methods is valued.

Requirements

1 to 3 years of similar or related experience.
High school education or GED
Extensive knowledge of collection regulations including but not limited to: MLA, SCRA, FCRA, FDCPA, Bankruptcy Code
Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Suite products
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Excellent member service skills
Results oriented, with the ability to work independently
Punctuality and regular onsite attendance

Proven understanding of the foreclosure and bankruptcy processes

Responsibilities

Overseeing collection efforts, focusing on innovative strategies to prevent foreclosure through forbearance and loan modifications.
Managing the OREO property portfolio.
Navigating complex issues related to bankruptcy, judgments, and levies.
Maintaining accurate reporting of recovery accounts.
Managing the repossession portfolio.
Preparing documentation for legal initiatives.
Collaborating with team members to develop credit solutions tailored to our members' needs.
Keeping meticulous records on delinquent accounts.
Facilitating insurance claims for various loans.
Negotiating optimal resolutions for both vendors and members.
Performing various tasks to support the credit union's mission and ensure effective recovery efforts.
