About The Position

The Collection Management Assistant works with the Curator of the Mollusk Collection performing routine curatorial tasks in the Division, including locating, labeling, and assessing the condition of fluid preserved mollusk specimens as part of an ongoing inventory project. The role also involves working with volunteers in the Division to accomplish tasks. Exposure to hazardous chemicals (chiefly ethanol and formalin) is possible, requiring lab safety trainings and proper PPE. This position is within the Department of Evolution, Ecology, and Organismal Biology in the College of Arts and Sciences at The Ohio State University. Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED
  • 1 year of relevant work experience
  • Completion of lab safety trainings due to potential exposure to hazardous chemicals (ethanol and formalin)
  • Ability to lift at least 30 pounds overhead for brief periods
  • Comfort with long periods of sitting and standing, punctuated by crouching and bending, and occasional use of stepladder

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in a biological/health science or an equivalent combination of education
  • Knowledge of function and curation of museum invertebrate collections as evidenced by previous work, volunteer, or research experience
  • Knowledge of organismal biology and taxonomy as evidenced by prior coursework or work/volunteer experience
  • Previous employment in a chemistry or biology laboratory setting, or formal research experience (more than just coursework); preferably 2-4 years of relevant experience
