Collection System Operator
About The Position
Under general supervision of the Sewer Collection Supervisor, this position makes several daily decisions requiring interpretation and judgment. The role has no responsibilities for reports, records, or supervisory duties. The Collection System Operator inspects and maintains lift stations, manholes, and sewer collection lines, ensuring all equipment is in good operating condition. This role involves installing or repairing sewer lines, manholes, pumps, and related accessories, and occasionally assisting with equipment repair at the water/wastewater plant. The operator responds and assists at work sites with proper equipment and must be able to lift 100-150lbs occasionally. Work involves using power tools, handling chemicals, maintaining city vehicles, and reporting damages to city facilities. The work is continuous and ongoing, with potential for other duties during events like parades or city events. The role requires working in a variety of weather conditions and performing other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Requires a high school diploma or GED.
- Must have a valid Texas drivers’ license with a satisfactory driving record.
Nice To Haves
- Prior experience working in the wastewater utility operations or related field.
- T.C.E.Q. License Class "D" Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator or Class "I" collection system operator, Class II Collection System Operator or Class "C" Wastewater Operator.
Responsibilities
- Inspects and maintains lift stations, manholes and sewer collection lines.
- Ensures all equipment is in good operating conditions.
- Installs or repairs sewer lines, manholes, pumps and related accessories.
- Occasionally assists in the repair of equipment at the water/wastewater plant.
- Responds and assists at work sites with proper equipment.
- Assists in lifting 100-150lbs occasionally (pumps, pipes valves, suction hoses, concrete bags).
- Works with power tools (Ex. drill, weed eaters, chainsaws, etc.).
- Works with deodorant or related lift station chemicals.
- Ensures that city vehicle is in good condition.
- Reports damages to any of the city facilities.
- May perform other duties as assigned for different events (Ex. Parades or City events).
- Works in a variety of weather conditions.
- Will perform other related duties as assigned.
