About The Position

Undergraduate pianists are hired to serve as lesson pianists for voice students in the Hall-Musco Conservatory of Music. Pianists will attend assigned weekly voice lessons and collaborate with singers and voice faculty on assigned repertoire. This position provides undergraduate pianists with practical experience in vocal collaboration, sight-reading, and working with singers in a professional instructional setting.

Requirements

  • Current undergraduate piano student at Chapman University.
  • Strong piano proficiency and basic sight-reading skills.
  • Ability to prepare assigned repertoire independently and reliably.
  • Good communication, organization, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to commit to assigned weekly lesson times for the semester.

Responsibilities

  • Attend assigned voice lessons consistently and punctually.
  • Prepare assigned repertoire in advance of each lesson.
  • Accompany singers during lessons and respond to musical direction from voice faculty.
  • Communicate directly and professionally with assigned singers regarding repertoire and scheduling.
  • Notify the KCA Coordinator promptly of scheduling conflicts or other concerns.
  • Maintain an appropriate level of preparation and professionalism throughout the semester.
