About The Position

The Coffee Barista works in Hy-Vee’s store coffee shop, providing friendly customer service while preparing beverages, replenishing products, and maintaining a clean, orderly department. The role involves serving customers at the counter and by phone, answering questions, processing payments where applicable, and helping ensure each customer has a positive experience. Baristas monitor product freshness and appearance, follow or develop production lists, receive and put away products, review invoices as needed, and remove trash promptly. They follow food-safety practices, department standards, the company dress code, hygiene standards, and other policies. They may also assist in other store areas and take on special projects. Training and support are provided; prior experience is not required.

Requirements

Follow written and verbal instructions.
Use basic math skills, including simple addition, subtraction, counting, and recording.
Communicate clearly and helpfully with customers and teammates.
Stay organized and keep pace in a busy coffee shop environment.
Less than a high school diploma or equivalent is accepted.

Nice To Haves

Up to six months of similar or related work experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

Greet customers warmly and provide outstanding, helpful service.
Take customer orders at the counter and over the phone, assist customers with finding products, and answer questions.
Prepare and replenish coffee shop products as needed.
Monitor product freshness and appearance and follow or develop a production list to meet daily needs.
Handle food safely and keep the work area clean, neat, and up to department standards.
Check in products, put products away, and review invoices as needed.
Operate the department register and process payments where applicable.
Remove trash promptly and maintain a tidy department.
Work with teammates to provide a smooth, positive customer experience.
Follow Hy-Vee’s dress code, hygiene standards, and company policies.
Assist in other store areas and take on special projects as needed.
