About The Position

Plans, directs, and supervises coding staff to ensure timely, accurate, and complete processing of coding services. This role requires advanced knowledge of ICD/CPT codes and ensures the accuracy of coding to reduce delays and resubmissions. The Coding Supervisor is responsible for ensuring compliance with CMS and AHCCCS regulations regarding charge entry, coding, and billing processes, and advocates for compliance with HIPAA guidelines. This position coordinates the coding process for accurate and timely billing of surgery charges, attends seminars to stay current on coding, compliance, and billing benefits, and establishes training for staff in conjunction with new releases. The supervisor also responds to patient questions and complaints to resolve problems and maintains high patient satisfaction levels, and assists in interviewing, hiring, and training new staff members.

Requirements

Advanced knowledge of ICD/CPT codes.
High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge preferred.
Five years of experience in coding and medical terminology.
Must be APC Certified.
Minimum of two years of supervisory experience.
APC Certification
Knowledge of the patient accounting system and provides support to staff as needed.
Knowledge of clinic-approved coding.
Knowledge of third-party fee profiles and reimbursement requirements.
Knowledge of health insurance processing and clinic policies and procedures.
Skill in advanced computer coding applications.
Skill in identifying and resolving complex coding problems.
Skill in exercising initiative, judgment, and decision-making to achieve organizational objectives.
Skill in establishing and maintaining professional relationships with patients, providers, and the public.
Ability to delegate responsibility and authority to staff.
Ability to be a resource for billing information and coding guidelines.
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

Responsibilities

Ensures completion of coding and charge posting within department guidelines.
Ensures the accuracy of coding to reduce delays and resubmissions.
Ensures compliance with CMS and AHCCCS with charge entry, coding, and billing processes.
Advocates compliance with HIPAA guidelines as it relates to coding and charges entry.
Coordinates the coding process to ensure accurate and timely billing of surgery charges.
Attends seminars to maintain current knowledge of coding, compliance, and billing benefits.
Establish training for staff in conjunction with new releases.
Responds to patient questions and complaints as required to resolve problems and maintain high patient satisfaction levels.
Assists in interviewing, hiring, and training new staff members.
