About The Position

Generac Home is hiring a Codes & Standards Specialist as an individual contributor responsible for creating and governing authoritative installation and code-related assets that drive compliant, code-correct installations at scale. The role proactively reduces approval friction by advising and training installers and Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs), owning installation guidance quality, influencing installation codes such as the NEC, capturing and reusing code-challenge learnings, and feeding practical requirements into product and documentation partners. This role directly supports Sales by reducing deal friction related to installation approval, supporting confident selling in regulated markets, and improving conversion from sale to activation. Role can be located in one of the following states; Massachusetts, Maine, New York, or New Jersey. Candidate should be located within 1 hour or less of a major airport dur to travel of 35%-40%.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Master Electrician certification; valid Driver’s License and associated documents where travel is required.
• 7+ years of residential and/or industrial electrical, installation, or code-related technical experience.
• Working knowledge of NEC/NFPA/CSA and the ability to interpret code requirements for real-world installation scenarios.
• Familiarity with the code-development process (for example, drafting Public Inputs and Public Comments).
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present to installer and inspector audiences.
• Ability to create clear, usable documentation, with disciplined source citation and knowledge capture.
• Cross-functional collaboration skills with Sales, Product Management, Regulatory, and Technical Publications.

Nice To Haves

• Associate degree or equivalent apprenticeship completion in an applicable trade or technical discipline.
• Electrical Instructor certification; State Inspector certification; relevant industry memberships (for example, IAEI).
• Experience designing and delivering training for large or diverse audiences; experience supporting AHJ inquiries; experience participating in NEC/NFPA code development.
• Familiarity with case/ticketing systems and building reusable knowledge bases (FAQs, playbooks, addenda).

Responsibilities

• Represent Generac in installation-code development, including authoring and submitting Public Inputs (PIs) and Public Comments during the NEC code cycle to shape installation requirements in Generac’s favor.
• Participate in NFPA, CSA, and related installation-code activities and coordinate positions with internal stakeholders.
• Track relevant code changes and adoptions and publish concise guidance (for example, NFPA 110 and NEC updates) for internal and external audiences.
• Develop and deliver install-focused advisory sessions and training (virtual and in-person) for dealers, builders, aligned contractors, and AHJs, including seminars and targeted briefings.
• Partner with Sales and Field Sales leaders to align priorities with active selling motions and market-entry needs.
• Anchor content to NEC/NFPA/CSA references and Generac-approved manuals and drawings, ensuring every artifact includes source citations.
• Provide authoritative installation guidance and clarifications, ensuring guidance is code-correct, consistent, and reusable across markets.
• Perform quality-assurance review of manuals and technical publications for installation accuracy and clarity, and route defects to the appropriate owners (Product, Technical Publications, Regulatory).
• Create and maintain materials tailored to local-code or audience-related changes as needed.
• Act as technical point of contact when AHJs challenge code compliance, providing initial responses using documented sources and structured templates.
• Develop and maintain an intake, resolution, and knowledge-capture process, converting learnings into FAQs, inspector one-pagers, training updates, and addenda.
• Provide structured feedback to Product Management on recurring installation friction and potential design considerations.

Benefits

• The salary range for this role is $99,100 to $141,000. Compensation will ultimately be in line with the location in which the position is filled. Final compensation for this role will be determined by various factors such as a candidates, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and geographic location.
