About The Position

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to inspect residential and commercial structures and lots for compliance with the International Property Maintenance Code, ordinances, and related regulations and requirements. Employees in this class serve as the department’s APOSTC-certified law enforcement professional, responsible for directing and coordinating complex, multi‑party, or escalated code enforcement cases that go beyond routine inspection duties. Work responsibilities involve developing case strategies, ensuring due process, preparing legal documentation, presenting cases in administrative hearings and court, approving or authorizing higher‑level enforcement actions, overseeing nuisance and weed abatement activities at a program level, coordinating with contractors and other City departments, and providing guidance and technical direction to Property Maintenance Inspectors and administrative staff. Fieldwork focuses on case verification, evidence gathering, or high‑risk assessments rather than routine inspections. The work is performed independently, with review to ensure compliance, procedural accuracy, and program effectiveness. This position reports to the Chief Property Maintenance Inspector.
