About The Position

The City of Edinburg is seeking a dedicated Code Enforcement Officer I to perform functions within the Health and Code Department. This role is essential for ensuring compliance with city codes in commercial and residential locations. The position involves conducting on-site inspections, responding to complaints, and providing assistance and support to residents and businesses. The city is looking for an individual with strong people skills, excellent customer service abilities, and a genuine enjoyment for the work.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, G.E.D. or equivalency.
  • One (1) year of experience in code enforcement or related field.
  • Must obtain Code Enforcement Officer License from a recognized agency within one (1) year of employment.
  • Must obtain Food Manager Certification within one (1) year of employment.
  • Must have a current valid class "C" driver's license from the Texas Department of Public Safety with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Attentiveness to detail.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Dependability.

Nice To Haves

  • Associates Degree in general studies
  • Three (3) years' experience in Code Enforcement and Health Food Establishment Inspections.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish

Responsibilities

  • Conduct on-site inspections to ensure compliance.
  • Approve restaurants, day care centers, school cafeterias, foster and adoption home applications, and grocery and convenience stores for opening.
  • Perform regular visits to Edinburg businesses and residential locations.
  • Respond to complaints filed by residents.
  • Inspect commercial and residential locations to ensure codes are being followed.
  • Provide assistance and support as needed.
  • Deliver excellent customer service to all customers.
