About The Position

Under the general direction of the Borough Planning Director or designee, the Code Compliance Officer is responsible for knowledge and administration of the provisions of ordinances and regulations that control the use of lands and rights-of-way within the Borough. Applications will be reviewed bi-weekly.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in urban, regional, or community planning, public administration, law enforcement or other related field
  • Three years of increasingly responsible experience in administering and enforcing zoning regulations
  • Professional experience with computerized database operations and management
  • Availability of a personal vehicle and a valid Alaska driver's license to perform all job functions are required.

Nice To Haves

  • Additional professional experience in permitting, law enforcement, compliance and zoning matters may be substituted for the education requirements on a year-for-year basis if the appropriate level of experience can be satisfactorily demonstrated.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and administers all necessary enforcement orders, warning documents, stipulations, warrants, staff reports and other required documents and provisions of KPB Ordinance Chapters 20 and 21.
  • Reports violations of code and assists in preparing an enforcement action plan in cooperation with all necessary borough departments.
  • Assists in developing policies and regulations for implementing and enforcing borough land use ordinances.
  • Maintains compliance database and computerized tracking system and prepares periodic reports for compliance activities.
  • Performs field inspections and follow up inspections to ensure compliance with conditions of codes, enforcement orders, warnings, and permits.
  • Communicates and coordinates with other regulatory agencies where multiple permits are required.
  • Provides information and assistance to the public on all aspects of code compliance requirements.
  • Receives and processes applications for land use and utility permits.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
