About The Position

The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), Department of Otolaryngology, is seeking a full-time audiologist specializing in cochlear implants. This role is crucial for a department that manages over 2000 cochlear implant patients and performs more than 200 implantations annually. The position is integrated with active, NIH-funded research programs in hearing and cochlear implants. The Department of Otolaryngology is a large department with six Otologists, six Pediatric Otolaryngologists, and 23 audiologists. Services are offered at the main MUSC campus in downtown Charleston and at satellite locations.

Requirements

  • Doctoral degree (AuD and/or PhD).
  • Clinical and academic experience with cochlear implants and hearing aids.
  • Appropriate certification and licensure.
  • Ability to perform job functions in an upright position (Frequent).
  • Ability to perform job functions in a seated position (Frequent).
  • Ability to perform job functions while walking/mobile (Frequent).
  • Ability to work indoors (Continuous).
  • Ability to fully use both hands/arms (Frequent).
  • Ability to perform repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders (Frequent).
  • Ability to reach in all directions (Frequent).
  • Possess good finger dexterity (Continuous).
  • Ability to maintain tactile sensory functions (Continuous).
  • Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes (Continuous).
  • Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand (Frequent).
  • Ability to see and recognize objects at a distance (Frequent).
  • Ability to determine distance/relationship between objects; depth perception (Continuous).
  • Good peripheral vision capabilities (Continuous).
  • Ability to maintain hearing acuity, with correction (Continuous).
  • Ability to perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements (Frequent).

Responsibilities

  • Providing diagnostic and therapeutic audiology services for the cochlear implant and hearing aid programs.
  • Conducting evaluations and determining cochlear implant candidacy.
  • Performing intra-operative testing.
  • Programming cochlear implants post-operatively.
  • Participating in and managing cochlear implant research, including data collection, analysis, and patient recruitment.
  • Teaching Otolaryngology residents.
  • Supervising AuD students.
