About The Position

This role is responsible for the care and feeding of birds, monitoring environmental conditions, and maintaining the cleanliness and biosecurity of the brooder house. The position requires adherence to strict biosecurity, animal welfare, and safety protocols. The work environment can be challenging, involving wet, slippery, hot, dusty, and cold conditions. The company provides necessary personal protective equipment.

Requirements

  • Applicants must have no disciplinary actions within the last 6 months.
  • Must have a point level <= 6 attendance points.
  • Must have 6 months in current area unless promoting, then less than 6 months in current area is allowable.
  • Must be willing and able to perform the physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must use safe lifting techniques.
  • Must regularly team lift up to 35 pounds to move items such as partitions, boxes of chicks, etc.
  • Must be willing to sign an agreement to avoid any avian species (chickens, ducks, birds, etc.).
  • Must be willing to sign and abide by the Company Biosecurity and Company Animal Welfare Guidelines.
  • Must be willing to shower, change clothing and footwear before entering the facility.
  • No jewelry may be worn on the jobsite except for medical ID jewelry and body piercings covered by appropriate clothing.

Nice To Haves

  • Tools, such as shovel/pitchfork may be required to move feed or shavings.

Responsibilities

  • Feeds and waters birds according to schedules.
  • Monitors temperature, lights and adjusts as instructed.
  • Walks floors daily; examines birds for signs of illness and treats according to instructions; picks up and disposes of mortality, loads mortality into incinerator.
  • Places pen partitions according to calculations; segregates birds according to line and age of source.
  • Cleans and disinfects waterers and pens and performs routine housekeeping duties; repairs pens and equipment (feeders, waterers, lights, fans, etc.).
  • Records information according to instructions such as line, MG, bird weight, medications, feed & water intake, and mortality.
  • Inspects birds to determine quality and progress by weighing birds weekly.
  • Sanitizes breakroom, boot rooms, equipment, and vehicles.
  • Properly euthanizes selected or weak/ill birds in accordance with company policy.
