About The Position

Cobb Three Springs Farm is seeking a Brooder House Worker to join their team. This role is responsible for the care and feeding of birds, monitoring their health and environment, and maintaining the cleanliness and functionality of the brooder house. The position requires adherence to strict biosecurity, animal welfare, and safety protocols. The work environment can involve various conditions, and specific personal protective equipment is required.

Requirements

  • Must have no disciplinary actions within the last 6 months.
  • Must be willing to sign an agreement to avoid any avian species (chickens, ducks, birds, etc.).
  • Must be willing to sign and abide by the Company Biosecurity and Company Animal Welfare Guidelines.
  • Must use safe lifting techniques.
  • Must regularly team lift up to 35 pounds to move items such as partitions, boxes of chicks, etc.
  • Must be able to stand majority of shift on multiple floor surfaces (i.e. concrete floor, shavings).
  • Must be able to walk; sit; use hands to handle or feel objects and controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; climb/ladder usage; stoop/bend up to 500 times per day; talk or hear; drive a vehicle within the farm complex.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision; distance vision; color vision; peripheral vision; depth perception; and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Required to work on wet, slippery surfaces and in hot, dry, dusty, wet, icy, snowy and cold environments.
  • Safety goggles and/or glasses, face shield, chemical gloves, waterproof apron, and company issued footwear are required.
  • Ear plugs will be used as required.
  • NIOSH approved N95 particulate respirators will be worn as needed.
  • Follow all applicable safety policies and procedures, including Hazard Communication, Respiratory Protection, LOTO and Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Identify, address and mitigate safety related risks.

Responsibilities

  • Feeds and waters birds according to schedules.
  • Monitors temperature, lights and adjusts as instructed.
  • Walks floors daily; examines birds for signs of illness and treats according to instructions; picks up and disposes of mortality, loads mortality into incinerator.
  • Places pen partitions according to calculations; segregates birds according to line and age of source.
  • Cleans and disinfects waterers and pens and performs routine housekeeping duties; repairs pens and equipment (feeders, waterers, lights, fans, etc.).
  • Records information according to instructions such as line, MG, bird weight, medications, feed & water intake, and mortality.
  • Inspects birds to determine quality and progress by weighing birds weekly.
  • Sanitizes breakroom, boot rooms, equipment, and vehicles.
  • Properly euthanizes selected or weak/ill birds in accordance with company policy.
