About The Position

Pratt & Whitney is seeking a Coatings Applicator for the 2nd shift. This role involves preparing, assembling, and performing laser operations on parts for coatings. The position requires operating computer systems for unclassified programs, masking, grit blasting, and dressing parts. Adherence to Pratt & Whitney, Environmental Health & Safety (EHS), and Quality policies is essential. While obtaining security clearance, the role will support unclassified manufacturing programs within Special Technologies under supervision. Responsibilities include following instructions, unloading and packaging products, participating in machine and tooling setup, performing routine equipment maintenance, cleaning parts using hand methods, and performing various operations such as baking, painting, and unclassified laser processes. Assembly of components and operation of complex tools and equipment, including robots and computers, are also part of the role. The position requires monitoring and documenting coatings processes using high-precision metrology equipment, following EHS procedures including PPE usage and making safety recommendations, and adhering to quality procedures to ensure parts meet specifications. Knowledge of applied mathematics, reading and interpreting complex drawings and specifications, and using precision measuring instruments are necessary. This is a 2nd shift position, Monday-Friday, 3:30 PM to midnight, with a 10% shift differential.

Requirements

  • 1 + year previous work experience with coating application processes and techniques or 1+ year experience in Aerospace or Automotive Mechanic or Technician or 1+ year experience as a Machine Operator or Machinist
  • High School Diploma/ GED.
  • Ability to attain and maintain a Secret Clearance.
  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required.

Nice To Haves

  • 4+ years of previous work experience with Coatings/Laser Drilling/Masking/Grit Blasting
  • 1+ year experience reading and Interpreting 2D drives, Micrometers and Calipers and Robotic Experience( Fanuc)
  • 1+ year experience using fixed or variable measuring instruments to check dimensions
  • Ability to understand and work from operation sheets, simple drawings, and process operation procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Prep, perform minor assembly on, and laser parts for coatings operations.
  • Use computer systems knowledge to operate programs associated with unclassified programs and processes.
  • Mask, grit blast and dress parts and assemblies.
  • Ensure all functions are performed according to Pratt & Whitney, Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) and Quality policies.
  • Perform other related work assignments as required or directed by supervision that supports department objectives.
  • While working to obtain security clearance and Program access, work under direction of supervision or lead man to perform operations in support of unclassified manufacturing programs within Special Technologies.
  • Follow written and verbal instruction and training provided by the working lead and other assigned personnel for all assigned tasks.
  • Unload, prep and package products used in coatings process.
  • Participate in set up of machines and tooling; perform routine maintenance of equipment as required.
  • Use hand-cleaning methods to clean parts to be treated and coated.
  • Perform various operations on parts including bake, paint, and unclassified laser processes.
  • Perform assembly of components to parts.
  • Operate tools of varying complexity to treat applications to parts.
  • Operate equipment of varying complexity including robots, hand tools and computers and computer programs.
  • Monitor and document coatings processes using high precision metrology equipment to measure and record results of work in progress and finished products.
  • Follow EHS procedures including maintaining compliance to certification requirements and use appropriate PPE for each assigned task; make recommendations to improve ergonomics, health and safety of work.
  • Follow quality procedures including adhering to procedures, inspecting work to ensure compliance to specifications ensuring parts meet specifications.
  • Knowledge and use of applied mathematics including algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and basic lab testing procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret complicated drawings and specifications.
  • Use a variety of precision measuring instruments, other specialized inspection methods and data input devices.
