About The Position

The Coating Technician is responsible for performing various tasks related to coating processes, including inspection, preparation, application, and post-processing of components. This role involves operating specialized equipment, maintaining inventory, ensuring quality control, and adhering to safety and environmental regulations. The technician will also be involved in training new personnel and assisting with equipment setup and maintenance.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Complete specific on-the-job training towards meeting essential duties and work area performance criteria.
  • Complete EHS assigned regulatory training for work area, including initial and annual Hazardous Waste Management training.
  • 2+ years of manufacturing experience with specific skills in at least one of the following disciplines: grinding, blending coatings, coatings application, coatings removal (strip line), blasting, heat treat, machining or welding or similar skillset.
  • 2+ years of experience with interpretation of technical drawings or work instructions.
  • 2+ years of experience in a production or maintenance environment.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of manufacturing processes.
  • Basic knowledge of MS Office programs, SAP, time keeping applications and folder structures.
  • Ability to cooperate and work with people.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimal experience in thermal spray booth operations under direct supervision.
  • Experience with grinding and blasting of components for braze preparation according specification.
  • Advise and / or participate in the design and fabrication of brazing tools and fixtures as required.

Responsibilities

  • Visually inspect serial numbers and part condition to verify acceptability.
  • Interpret inspection findings and react according to established procedures.
  • Track and manage tooling and consumable inventories.
  • Perform liquid and tape masking on components using various tools and equipment according to WI/Drawings to maintain coating allowances.
  • Perform manual and robotic pre-process grit blasting for thermal spray on components according to specification and interpret results.
  • Utilize precision measuring equipment to check work and record data in an electronic database.
  • Perform in-process inspection of own work and work of others before part movement to the next operation.
  • Operate controls on atmospheric and vacuum furnaces under direct supervision, including loading and unloading own work.
  • Understand loading configurations and AMS2750 requirements for furnaces and job aids.
  • Assist operators in setting up their equipment and maintenance of tooling.
  • Operate small cranes and forklifts to move equipment, parts, and material.
  • Perform data entry/confirmation of required quality documentation.
  • Report and monitor abnormal production time per production step.
  • Carry out scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on equipment and tools.
  • Follow Environmental Health and Safety regulations in a fast-paced environment.
  • Continually improve operations and the working environment through 5s methodology.
  • Perform waste handling in accordance with EHS procedures and legal requirements, including segregation, container management, labeling, and spill cleanup.
  • Independently carry out assigned technician work and correct non-conforming hardware during reconditioning processes where applicable.
  • Perform thermal spray booth operations under direct supervision.
  • Train entry-level technicians for coating prep, braze, and heat treatment.
  • Set up and install brazing equipment according to process requirements.
  • Execute brazing requirements on gas turbine components as per technical specifications for joining and putty braze.
  • Perform grinding and blasting of components for braze preparation according to specification.
  • Advise and/or participate in the design and fabrication of brazing tools and fixtures.
  • Report technical deviations to the Cell Lead/Supervisor.
  • Keep the working environment and machines in a clean and proper condition.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
