About The Position

This role is responsible for the organization and supervision of the coaching staff in teaching the fundamentals of interscholastic sports. The coach is accountable for the behavior of the entire squad and coaching staff during practice sessions and games. This position involves directing the total program of the sport, safeguarding the physical well-being of participants, and managing team conduct. The coach must also ensure athletes are informed of departmental and OHSAA guidelines, manage equipment inventory and finances, and cooperatively supervise locker rooms and team areas. Additionally, the coach is expected to show courtesy to officials and visiting teams, arrange for equipment storage, attend department meetings and contests, manage expenditures within budget, and recognize the significant influence coaches have on young athletes. The role also includes assisting with special events, serving as an advisor to players, supporting the school's overall athletic program, and performing other coaching-related duties as directed.

Responsibilities

  • Organize and supervise coaching staff in teaching interscholastic sports fundamentals.
  • Ensure the behavior of the entire squad and coaching staff at all practice sessions and interscholastic games.
  • Supervise and direct the total program of the sport.
  • Direct the work and assignment of assistant coaches with Athletic Administrator approval.
  • Safeguard the physical well-being of all participants.
  • Control personal and team behavior at practices and games for crowd control.
  • Inform athletes of departmental and OHSAA guidelines, conduct code, policies, and procedures.
  • Be financially responsible for all equipment in inventory and account for issued equipment at the end of the season.
  • Cooperatively supervise the locker room and team area, ensuring athletes are never in an unsupervised area.
  • Show special courtesies to officials and visiting teams.
  • Arrange for storage of coaching staff equipment at the conclusion of the season.
  • Attend all Athletic Department meetings unless excused by the Athletic Administrator.
  • Be in attendance at all interscholastic contests involving his/her team, at home or away, unless there is an extenuating circumstance.
  • Keep expenditures within the budget.
  • Recognize the tremendous influence coaches and sports have on athletes and approach coaching with this in mind.
  • Secure athletic scholarships for deserving seniors.
  • Assist in the planning of special events such as assemblies, Homecoming, pep rallies, Booster Club programs, banquets, etc.
  • Serve as an advisor to the players on his/her squad to help them with problems.
  • Be interested and loyal to the school’s program, supporting the entire program and encouraging athletes to participate in other sports.
  • Perform other coaching-related duties as directed by the Principal or Athletic Administrator.
