About The Position

Spokane Public Schools is seeking a temporary extracurricular coach for the C Team Girls Basketball program at Lewis and Clark High School. The coach will develop student skills and attitudes and carry out the duties and responsibilities outlined in the school activities handbook. The role includes supervising and directing the team, organizing practices and related activities, administering program requirements, emphasizing safety, and maintaining equipment. Coaches are expected to work professionally and collaboratively with students, staff, families, and school leadership.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent; this is the minimum qualification.
• Positive attitude toward students and ability to motivate them toward developing a successful program.
• Understanding of the activity, safety practices, techniques, rules, and progression of skill development, evidenced by coursework and successful coaching of the activity.
• Ability to instruct students in the techniques and requirements of the activity.
• Ability to plan practices and events and organize the materials and people needed to carry out the sport or activity.
• Ability to consistently meet scheduled responsibilities for practice, coaching preparation, competition, and related activities.
• Ability to work independently and/or cooperatively under supervision.
• Ability to work positively, professionally, and equitably with student coaches, colleagues, and other staff.
• Physical stamina to conduct the sport or activity and withstand various weather conditions.
• Ability to implement policies, rules, and regulations outlined in the school activities handbook.
• Fingerprint background check required for prospective employees.

Nice To Haves

• College degree or college training preferred.
• Current first-aid certification highly recommended.

Responsibilities

• Ensure school policies, rules, and regulations are followed as outlined by the building principal or activities coordinator and the activities handbook.
• Directly supervise and conduct the team until students are dismissed from the building or returned to class.
• Conduct the program professionally and develop student skills and attitudes.
• Inform the principal of program changes.
• Administer insurance requirements, parent or guardian approval cards, team roster maintenance, accident reports, uniform accountability, team transportation, and security of athletes’ personal property.
• Emphasize safety precautions and follow appropriate training and injury procedures.
• Distribute activity information and schedules to building principals, the secretary, parents, and participants.
• Attend meetings called by the activities coordinator, including required pre- and post-season meetings.
• Care for and maintain equipment for the activity.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the principal.
