About The Position

Coach Across America is a national nonprofit organization founded in 2010 that focuses on the power of coaches to transform the lives of vulnerable youth and their communities through sports. The organization believes that highly trained coaches can be among the most transformative adults in young people's lives, inspiring success on the field, in the classroom, and in life. The Youth Sports Coach & Mentor role is primarily focused on direct sports-based youth development, mentoring, and leadership programming with teenage and elementary-aged youth in Baltimore City. The Coach will utilize sports as a platform to help young people develop essential life skills such as communication, teamwork, discipline, confidence, resilience, leadership, and healthy decision-making, while fostering meaningful relationships with caring adults. Key responsibilities include planning, leading, and assisting with sports practices, skills-development sessions, fitness activities, games, mentoring, and character/leadership activities. A significant aspect of the role involves developing teenage participants into youth coaches by preparing them to lead younger children, teaching them coaching and communication skills, observing their coaching, and providing feedback. A major responsibility will be assisting 10:12 Sports in designing and piloting an elementary-aged youth sports outreach initiative in Sandtown/West Baltimore. This includes developing age-appropriate activities, directly serving elementary-aged participants, supporting programming at neighborhood schools and community sites, coordinating equipment and activity plans, gathering feedback, and assisting with program evaluation. The Coach will also support existing 10:12 Sports programs, including football, basketball, year-round mentoring, summer programming, youth leadership activities, and school- and community-based sports opportunities.
