About The Position

IDEA Early Childhood Co-Teachers support Tier 1 instruction in Prekindergarten through Grade 2 and provide targeted intervention under the direction of lead teachers. They facilitate small-group learning, provide academic, behavioral, and social-emotional support, and help create joyful, engaging learning environments. Co-Teachers collaborate closely with lead teachers to help students receive the support they need to achieve mastery and develop a love of learning. The role includes assisting with core instruction and student records, monitoring learning and progress, communicating with students and families, and supporting classroom behavior and community. Co-Teachers also participate in meetings, duties, tutoring, and ongoing professional learning. The position requires a minimum of 40 hours at school per week; additional after-school tutoring or Saturday school may be assigned based on student needs.

Requirements

At least 48 college hours or a bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year educational institution.
At least one year of experience working with children in a classroom or volunteer setting.
Basic knowledge of early childhood development and instructional practices.
Ability to support young learners in whole-group, small-group, and individual learning.
Ability to adapt to diverse learner needs.
Ability to provide clear directions, engage students, and respond to student behavior.
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

Assist in students’ educational development under the direction and guidance of classroom teachers.
Assist classroom teachers with maintaining student records.
Support Tier 1 core instruction under the direction of the lead teacher so all students can access grade-level learning.
Facilitate small-group instruction and intervention groups based on student data and teacher planning.
Monitor student learning and needs during instruction and provide feedback and support.
Communicate students’ progress with students and families weekly.
Implement a clear and consistent behavior management system aligned with campus-wide initiatives while developing students’ character and sense of classroom community.
Help develop a school-wide culture that fosters a productive and enthusiastic learning environment.
Establish and maintain cooperative, respectful relationships with students and families, grounded in trust and understanding of their communities.
Host tutoring sessions needed to meet students’ needs.
Participate in weekly manager check-ins, grade-level meetings, before- and after-school duties, and school-wide meetings and functions.
Participate in summer and year-long district, school, and personal learning and development.
Work a minimum of 40 hours at school per week.
As needed, provide after-school tutoring or participate in Saturday school.
