About The Position

This co-op position is for a Student in Immunology within the in vitro pharmacology group. The role involves supporting mammalian tissue culture activities, ensuring cell line maintenance, and assisting in the interrogation of novel biology using various techniques. The student will execute functional immunological assays, maintain accurate data records, analyze data, and communicate results. Collaboration with other team members and adherence to scientific and safety standards are essential.

Requirements

Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program in Biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Immunology or a related discipline.
Availability for an 8-month co-op term is required.
Interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Organizational skills and the ability to work effectively in a high-paced, fast-changing environment.
Enthusiasm for innovation and discovery.
Excellent communication skills.
Good computer skills particularly with Excel and PowerPoint.
Basic working knowledge of antibody structure and function.

Responsibilities

Support mammalian tissue culture activities of the in vitro pharmacology group using aseptic techniques.
Ensure cell lines are properly expanded, frozen down and databases updated as required.
Assist in interrogating novel biology utilizing flow cytometry, high content imaging, mesoscale discovery (MSD), or other techniques.
Execute functional immunological assays such as on-cell binding, reporter gene assays (RGAs), receptor expression/internalization by flow cytometry, and/or cytokine secretion assays.
Adhere to Zymeworks standard procedures for generating, documenting and archiving data and maintaining an accurate, up-to-date lab notebook or electronic notebook.
Analyze data, prepare slides, and communicate results.
Work closely with other members of the assays team and conduct all activities in accordance with scientific standards, OS&H regulations and established Zymeworks policies and practices.
