About The Position

The Co-Director of The Educational Justice Institute (TEJI), within MIT’s Experimental Study Group, advances educational opportunity for incarcerated individuals while engaging MIT students in learning about the criminal legal system. The Co-Director for Operations and Development partners with TEJI’s Director on strategy, operations, finance, and student-centered program leadership. The role leads strategic planning and funding development, including identifying prospective funders, preparing grant proposals and reports, and cultivating relationships with MIT, correctional, community, and external partners. It also leads communications, marketing, web, and social media. The Co-Director oversees academic administration for classes, tutoring, and other prison-based educational activities, including required permissions. In collaboration with ESG’s Program Manager, the role supports undergraduates and mentors TEJI students. A central responsibility is robust financial stewardship: managing TEJI accounts, reconciliations, budgets, forecasts, payroll, internal controls, financial reporting, and compliance; monitoring spending; and ensuring sound use of program resources. The role serves as TEJI’s primary finance liaison to ESG and GUE Finance. It provides oversight and is expected, over time, to supervise finance and administrative staff supporting TEJI.
