About The Position

The University of Lynchburg, a private, regional university in the beautiful foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Central Virginia, is seeking applicants for a full-time Director of Educational Technology position in the Academic Affairs Department. This position reports to, is supervised by, and evaluated by the Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs. The evaluation of work performance will be ongoing and will be carried out by the Director of Educational Technology. It will include the specific duties and responsibilities of this position description plus employee attitude and general working behavior.

Requirements

Ability to communicate effectively and have the ability to understand, comprehend and follow directions
Must have good teamwork skills
Learning Management Systems: Advanced administration of Moodle/MNET architectures, D2L Brightspace, LTI standards, SCORM, and WCAG 2.1 accessibility
Enterprise & Scheduling Tech: Proficiency with Ellucian Colleague (SIS), Google Workspace for Education, and enterprise scheduling software.
Classroom & AV Engineering: Knowledge of hybrid/hyflex classroom hardware and faculty hardware refresh models
Instructional Pedagogy: Expertise in Quality Matters (QM) frameworks, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and adult learning theories.
5-7 years of progressively responsible leadership managing academic technology or learning systems in higher education, with at least 3 years supervising instructional designers or LMS administrators.
Master's degree in Educational Technology, Instructional Design, Computer Science, IT Higher Education Administration, or a related field.
Candidates must successfully pass a background check that is satisfactory to the University.

Responsibilities

Leading the operations of systems and services to help deliver critical Education programs across multiple modalities, including credit-bearing, continuing education, international programs, and special programs including, but no limited to, Moodle, D2L Brigtspace, Google, and Colleague.
Ensuring proper solutions and knowledge management best practices are followed and integrating continual service improvements to refine and improve effectiveness and efficiency.
Provides institutional-level oversight to instructional designers/instructional technologists.
Responsible for building, implementing, and maintaining a centralized Education Affairs course/faculty scheduling process.
Responsible for the Teaching and Learning Center
Responsible for the operations and maintenance of Moodle.
Responsible for the modalities and infrastructure to support distance education
Manages Faculty technology refresh cycles
Oversees academic classroom technology and modalities and classroom design
Serves as Liaison between ITR, Academic Affairs, and academic departments.
Responsible for the creation of streamlined Digital Processes.
Develop and implement a comprehensive education technology strategy that is aligned with the university's mission and goals.
Collaborate with faculty and academic departments to integrate technology into curriculum design and delivery.
Lead and support using learning management systems (LMS) and other educational technologies.
Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend solutions that enhance teaching, learning and research.
Lead efforts to assess and improve the effectiveness of academic technology initiatives.
Provide training and support to faculty and staff on the use of academic technologies.
Responsible for the management of academic technology infrastructure and resources.
Stay informed about trends and best practices in academic technology and higher education.
