About The Position

Putnam Precision is seeking a skilled CNC Swiss Machinist to join their team. This role involves setting up and operating Swiss CNC lathes, ensuring precision and quality in manufactured parts for the medical, commercial, and aerospace industries. The machinist will be responsible for maintaining tight tolerances, troubleshooting issues, and collaborating with team members to optimize production processes. Requirements

  • 5+ years of Swiss CNC machine setup experience (Star, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of CNC programming concepts and tooling applications.
  • Proficient in reading blueprints and applying GD&T.
  • Skilled in precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, optical comparators, etc.).
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Strong problem-solving and mechanical aptitude.
  • College Degree or significant work experience

Responsibilities

  • Set up Swiss CNC lathes (Star or similar) including tooling, offsets, and program loading.
  • Perform first-piece inspections and make necessary adjustments to maintain tolerances.
  • Monitor machine operations, tool wear, and part quality during production runs.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve machining issues quickly to minimize downtime.
  • Conduct routine maintenance and ensure machines are in good working condition.
  • Document setups, process changes, and inspection results per company standards.
  • Collaborate with programmers, quality inspectors, and production leads to optimize efficiency.
  • Follow all safety policies and maintain a clean, organized work area.
