About The Position

This position is responsible for utilizing strong technical skills to setup and operate CNC machines as required to produce component parts that meet specifications; demonstrating safe work practices at all times and to identify areas of potential concern to management; participating in team activities and to provide ideas to support continuous improvement activities within their work team or cell.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or one to three months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Certificate in CNC Machine Operation from accredited institution or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years of CNC Setup operating or consistently demonstrated equivalent ability.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Familiarity with sensing systems technologies and aerospace product specs.
  • Ability to learn and apply advanced technical concepts.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex technical problems with limited information.
  • Able to communicate effectively with management and co-workers to promote strong working relationships and create an environment focused on teamwork.
  • Flexible with work and job assignments and willing to perform any function as needed.
  • Understands and demonstrates comprehension of drawings, blueprints and manufacturing work instructions.
  • Possess a clear understanding of general math (including fractions and decimals).
  • Possess basic computer skills including database software and electronic mail software.
  • Must have 20/20 vision with correction, and no color blindness, steady hands with good dexterity. (Company issued annual eye exam.)

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with Hardinge Lathes & Mills, DMC Lathes & Mills, Miyano Lathes, Okuma Mills is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Proficiently setups and operates CNC lathe and/or mill to machine components to customer requirements by performing all machine set-ups, tool changes, and offsets as required.
  • Performs operations such as turning, boring, milling, contouring, facing, and threading on castings, forgings, and bar stock.
  • Collaborates with departmental support staff, programming, quality and technical support to develop new processes and products as well as to isolate, troubleshoot, and resolve non-conforming results.
  • Suggests and participates in the implementation of process improvements, setups reduction initiatives and scraps reduction activities.
  • Performs all first piece and in-process inspection as required uses calipers, micrometers, plug gauges, and ring gauges or other necessary inspection equipment.
  • Prepares programs and performs minor to intermediate adjustments to program inputs including minor tool changes and offsets to ensure product specifications are met.
  • Assists in the development and maintenance of work instructions and process sheets and ensures paperwork is organized, detailed and current.
  • Completes necessary paperwork and documentation to ensure quality conformance and the proper movement and control of product as well as all quality related inspection requirements.
  • Works safely and actively participates in all plant safety directives while adhering to all safety guidelines and procedures.
  • Participates in team activities and continuous improvement activities.
  • Covers other positions as instructed by Worklead or other superiors.
  • Sets up and operates multiple machines within the Machine Shop.
  • Ability to work overtime.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
