About The Position

The CNC Machine Set Up Technician is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining CNC machines to ensure the efficient and precise manufacturing of parts and components. This role involves interpreting blueprints and engineering instructions to configure machine tools and adjust machine settings for optimal performance. The technician will collaborate with the engineering and production teams to troubleshoot issues, perform quality checks, and make necessary adjustments to maintain part accuracy and consistency. This position plays a critical role in supporting the overall manufacturing process. Successful CNC Machine Set Up Technicians put quality over volume, team over the individual, and love challenges over comfort. Requirements

  • Proficient in CNC code, offsets, and blueprint reading; able to navigate CNC mill and lathe machine controls and manipulate machines as needed.
  • Strong understanding of the company’s methodology in programming, fixturing, and part loading processes.
  • Basic knowledge of tools including drills, cutting tools, and radius tools; understands their applications and limitations.
  • Familiar with machine functions and operations necessary for milling, turning, drilling, tapping, and deburring tasks.
  • Competent in using calibrated measuring equipment to set up and proof out products, ensuring the quality of the first articles.
  • Ability to multitask, manage time effectively, and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication skills; able to work effectively as part of a team and communicate issues clearly.
  • Able to run all parts at a trainer level and perform tasks with minimal direction.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical training in CNC machining preferred.
  • Broad knowledge of fabrication and machining techniques.
  • Proven experience in setting up, programming, and operating CNC machines independently.
  • Strong computer navigation skills, including proficiency in machine controls and job tracking software.
  • Understanding of fit, form, and function to ensure manufactured products meet specifications and design intent.
  • Familiarity with safety procedures and a commitment to maintaining a safe working environment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve machining issues efficiently.
  • Willingness to adhere to all company policies, procedures, and work instructions; proactive in maintaining equipment and work area cleanliness.
  • Willingness to perform other duties and projects as assigned by management.
  • Continual improvement mindset; actively participate in team initiatives to enhance Machine Shop processes.
  • Ability to complete tasks as directed by manufacturing schedules with minimum supervision.
  • 18+ years of age

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate CNC machines, including mills, lathes, and multi-axis equipment, for milling, turning, drilling, tapping, and deburring operations.
  • Interpret blueprints, job travelers, drawings, and sample parts to determine dimensions, tolerances, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
  • Perform intermediate to advanced machine setups independently, ensuring precise part production with close tolerances.
  • Use and maintain fixturing, tooling, and calibrated measuring equipment, ensuring parts meet quality standards.
  • Inspect and measure finished parts using precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, etc.) to verify conformance to specifications.
  • Perform typical machine shop operations, including deburring and chamfering parts with files or scrapers.
  • Identify, detect, and report defective parts, materials, or issues to the Machining Team Lead.
  • Maintain work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition; perform prescribed preventative maintenance on machinery.
  • Follow all company safety procedures, policies, and best practices, fostering a culture of safety within the shop.
  • Gather necessary materials and tools as specified in job travelers; ensure proper loading and setup of parts.
  • Complete tasks as directed by the Team Lead, with minimal supervision; participate in team efforts to improve processes.
  • Willingness to perform other duties and projects as assigned by management.

  • Completes tasks as directed by manufacturing schedules with minimum supervision.
