CNC Programmer

Mazak Corporation•Florence, KY

About The Position

Mazak Corporation is seeking a CNC Programmer to join the FMF team. The role develops safe, accurate, production-ready machining processes that meet quality, delivery, and cost requirements. The programmer translates engineering drawings, solid models, and specifications into CNC programs, tooling plans, setup instructions, and prove-out support, and owns assigned work from initial review through stable production. The role is responsible for preventing programming-related defects, machine risk, and avoidable downtime. The CNC Programmer develops and optimizes machining processes; verifies programs and toolpaths; prepares setup documentation; supports machinists and operators during setup and production; and leads or assists with first-piece prove-out and production release. The role also interprets drawings and inspection requirements, troubleshoots machining problems, improves cycle time and tooling costs, coordinates across manufacturing functions, maintains controlled program documentation, and supports safety, 6S, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of experience with CNC programming.
  • Experience operating and setting up CNC machines.
  • Proficiency using Mastercam.
  • Experience reading blueprints.
  • Ability to understand cutting conditions and make necessary adjustments to produce parts as quickly and safely as possible while meeting production needs.
  • Experience using gaging instruments such as finger indicators, plunge indicators, calipers, micrometers, bore gages, ring gages, snap gages, tape measures, and scales.
  • Experience with fixture setup and workholding techniques.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree or technical certificate in CNC machining, manufacturing technology, or a related field.
  • Mazatrol experience.

Responsibilities

  • Create, revise, and optimize CNC programs from engineering drawings, solid models, and specifications.
  • Determine machining sequence, tooling, workholding, speeds, feeds, and process requirements.
  • Simulate and verify toolpaths, work offsets, clearances, and machine limits before releasing programs; identify and eliminate collision, overtravel, part-damage, and equipment risks.
  • Prepare setup sheets, tooling lists, fixture instructions, and program notes.
  • Work with machinists and operators during setup, prove-out, and production support.
  • Lead or support first-piece prove-out, adjust programs as needed, confirm process stability, and release programs only after quality and production requirements are met.
  • Interpret drawings, GD&T, tolerances, and inspection requirements; coordinate with Quality and Engineering to resolve discrepancies and prevent nonconforming parts from moving downstream.
  • Diagnose dimensional variation, surface-finish, chatter, tool-life, cycle-time, and program-related issues, and implement permanent corrective actions.
  • Improve machining efficiency through toolpaths, cutting parameters, tool selection, setup methods, and process sequencing while protecting quality, tool life, and machine capability.
  • Coordinate with Production, Engineering, Quality, Tooling, Maintenance, and supervision on manufacturability, schedule priorities, new work, and recurring production issues.
  • Maintain accurate program files, setup documents, revisions, tooling data, and standard work in accordance with naming, approval, backup, and change-control requirements.
  • Follow safety procedures, support organized work areas consistent with 6S principles, and participate in continuous-improvement activities.
