The CNC Programmer develops and optimizes programs for precision-machined parts, translating engineering requirements into safe, efficient machining processes that meet dimensional and surface-finish requirements. The role works closely with machinists, manufacturing engineering, and quality, and supports programming, prove-outs, setups, troubleshooting, and process improvement.

Requirements

  • Practical CNC programming experience in a precision manufacturing environment, supported by machining or technical training.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings and apply geometric dimensioning and tolerancing to machining processes.
  • Working knowledge of G-code, M-code, machining principles, cutting tools, and workholding.
  • Experience with CAD/CAM software, program verification, and shop-floor troubleshooting.
  • Ability to use precision inspection tools and communicate effectively with machinists and engineers.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with CNC turning and milling.
  • Experience with tight-tolerance components.
  • Experience with stainless steels or specialty alloys.
  • Experience with continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Create, modify, and maintain CNC programs using engineering drawings, solid models, and manufacturing requirements.
  • Develop machining sequences and select cutting tools, holders, workholding, speeds, feeds, and setup strategies.
  • Use CAD/CAM tools and suitable simulation or verification methods to identify machining risks before program release.
  • Support first-piece prove-outs, machine setups, troubleshooting, and program adjustments on the production floor.
  • Optimize toolpaths, cycle times, tool life, surface finish, and dimensional consistency.
  • Prepare setup sheets, tooling lists, program documentation, and operator instructions, and maintain revision control.
  • Collaborate with quality personnel to resolve dimensional issues and verify processes meet print requirements.
  • Assist with fixture concepts and provide feedback on design for manufacturability and recurring production issues.
