About The Position

The Programming / Tooling Specialist is responsible for CNC programming, tooling management, tool room operations, inventory control, process improvement, and technical manufacturing support. This role involves developing, maintaining, validating, and optimizing CNC programs for turning and milling operations, creating and maintaining offline CNC programs using approved CAD/CAM software, and analyzing existing programming methods to implement improved strategies. The specialist will interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and manufacturing requirements, and collaborate with machinists, engineers, and production personnel to troubleshoot programming, tooling, and machining issues. Responsibilities also include verifying and validating CNC programs before production release, specifying tooling requirements, machining data, and work holding strategies, and maintaining manufacturing databases, CNC program documentation, and programming standards. The role also entails participation in Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives, managing the receipt, storage, and issuance of tools, jigs, fixtures, machine attachments, measuring devices, and related equipment, and maintaining records of tooling and manufacturing supplies inventory. Additionally, the specialist will maintain the condition of tools, coordinate repair, replacement, and sharpening, perform perpetual inventory counts, requisition necessary tools and materials, maintain tooling storage areas, and deliver requisitioned items. Safety is paramount, requiring adherence to company safety policies and reporting of unsafe conditions. Collaboration with tooling vendors to ensure proper stocking levels is also a key aspect of the role. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED required.
Minimum three (3) years manufacturing, machining, tooling, CNC programming or industrial engineering related experience required.
Requires ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints and manufacturing specifications.
Requires ability to perform mathematical calculations utilizing decimals, fractions, metrics and machining formulas.
Experience with CNC turning, milling and EDM operations required.
Experience with CAD/CAM software, CNC controls and manufacturing systems required.
Ability to effectively communicate and work with cross-functional teams.
Ability to debug on-the-fly CNC programs during production that the Operator encounters with errors or issues.
Ability to develop a system for planning and prioritizing the CNC programming of the shop floor jobs to meet program delivery deadlines.
Ability to work independently and collaborate with cross-functional teams in the local organization.
Able to summarize complex needs into high level information to be escalated to management for investment, project initiation or process architecture amendments.

Nice To Haves

Experience with tooling selection, tooling inventory management and machining process support preferred.
Working knowledge of G-Code, CNC machining practices, cutting tools and work holding methods preferred.

Responsibilities

Maintains condition of tools and coordinates repair, replacement and sharpening activities as required.
Performs perpetual inventory counts and maintains inventory accuracy.
Requisitions tools, supplies and related materials as necessary.
Maintains tooling storage areas, bins, racks and inventory locations in a neat and orderly fashion.
Delivers requisitioned tooling and materials as instructed.
Performs duties in accordance with company safety policies and reports unsafe conditions.
Work closely with tooling vendors to ensure proper stocking levels are maintained.
Performs other duties as assigned.
