CNC Mill Operator

Revak Keene Turbomachinery•La Porte, TX

About The Position

The CNC Mill Operator sets up and operates CNC milling equipment to manufacture and repair precision components according to engineering drawings, specifications, established CNC programs, and FOX quality requirements. This hands-on machining role supports complex turbomachinery and rotating-equipment components. The position requires machining experience, knowledge of tooling and machining fundamentals, and the ability to independently make offsets and adjustments that maintain dimensional accuracy and part quality. Experience with DMG MORI DMU 5-axis machining centers, FANUC controls, large or complex components, rotating-equipment components, and split-part machining is highly desirable. Work is performed primarily in an industrial machine shop. The operator works around operating CNC machinery, tooling, metal chips, cutting fluids, forklifts, cranes, and other industrial equipment, and must wear required personal protective equipment. The position may require overtime, weekends, or modified work schedules based on production and customer requirements.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Prior hands-on experience operating CNC milling equipment in a precision machining or manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to independently perform CNC machine setups and operate equipment safely.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and manufacturing specifications.
  • Working knowledge of GD&T and dimensional tolerancing.
  • Ability to use precision measuring and inspection equipment, including micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, depth gauges, indicators, and height gauges.
  • Knowledge of CNC tooling, tool offsets, work offsets, feeds, speeds, and basic machining principles.
  • Ability to recognize tool wear and machining problems and make appropriate adjustments.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability.
  • Ability to produce work to close tolerances while maintaining productivity and quality requirements.
  • Ability to work independently and communicate effectively with supervisors, programmers, engineers, and Quality personnel.
  • Ability to safely lift and move up to 50 lbs.; appropriate assistance or lifting equipment is used for heavier components.
  • Ability to work around operating CNC machinery, tooling, metal chips, cutting fluids, forklifts, cranes, and other industrial equipment, and to wear required personal protective equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience operating DMG MORI DMU 5-axis machining centers.
  • Experience with FANUC controls.
  • Experience machining large or complex components, rotating-equipment components, or split parts.
  • Experience machining components for turbomachinery, compressors, turbines, pumps, or other rotating equipment.
  • Experience machining stainless steels, nickel alloys, Inconel, Hastelloy, or other exotic materials.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate CNC milling machines to manufacture and repair precision components according to drawings, specifications, setup sheets, and established CNC programs.
  • Operate DMG MORI DMU 5-axis CNC machining centers and other CNC milling equipment.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, work instructions, and applicable GD&T requirements.
  • Review job requirements and verify the correct material, tooling, fixtures, programs, and setup before machining.
  • Install and secure workpieces, fixtures, cutting tools, and other required tooling.
  • Establish and verify machine work offsets, tool offsets, and reference points.
  • Perform machine setup, program prove-out, dry runs, and first-piece verification as required.
  • Make tool, wear, and dimensional offsets to maintain required tolerances.
  • Make minor CNC program edits at the machine when necessary and within established authorization and operating procedures.
  • Monitor machining operations and identify abnormal machine conditions, tool wear, chatter, dimensional variation, and other process issues.
  • Select and change cutting tools based on material, operation, tool condition, and machining requirements.
  • Apply working knowledge of speeds, feeds, tooling, workholding, and machining practices to support safe and efficient production.
  • Use precision measuring equipment to verify part dimensions.
  • Perform in-process inspections and document measurements as required by FOX quality procedures.
