CNC Machinist

Laborup•Santa Clara, CA
•$35 - $41

About The Position

Join an engineering-driven precision manufacturer producing complex, tight-tolerance components for the aerospace, defense, semiconductor, and medical industries. This hands-on setup role involves independently owning the CNC lathe setup process, rather than simply operating a machine. The machinist will work with advanced CNC turning centers, including machines with live tooling and Y-axis capabilities, in a precision manufacturing environment. The position is full-time and direct hire, with compensation of $35–$41 per hour based on experience. The schedule is second shift, Monday through Friday, 2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of CNC lathe setup experience in a precision machine shop.
  • Ability to independently perform complete CNC lathe setups from start to finish.
  • Strong understanding of CNC turning processes, cutting tools, feeds and speeds, and workholding.
  • Experience reading G-code and making basic CNC program edits at the machine.
  • Strong blueprint-reading skills and working knowledge of GD&T.
  • Experience machining tight-tolerance components and performing first-piece inspections.
  • Ability to troubleshoot machining issues and make adjustments without constant supervision.
  • Comfort working independently on second shift.

Responsibilities

  • Independently set up CNC lathes and turning centers for precision machining operations.
  • Perform complete machine setups, including tooling selection, workholding, tool offsets, and first-piece inspection.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, G-code, and GD&T requirements.
  • Load and prove out CNC programs, making machine-side adjustments as needed.
  • Set up and perform turning operations including facing, boring, threading, grooving, drilling, and contouring.
  • Work with live tooling and Y-axis machining capabilities on complex components.
  • Troubleshoot tooling, dimensional, surface-finish, and machining issues.
  • Inspect first articles and finished components using micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, indicators, and other precision measuring equipment.
  • Adjust feeds, speeds, tooling, and offsets to improve machining performance.
  • Maintain tight tolerances while machining a variety of metals and engineered materials.
  • Take ownership of assigned machines, setups, and production quality throughout the shift.
