About The Position

3M is seeking a CNC Machinist for its Lexington, KY plant. This position offers an opportunity to collaborate with innovative individuals and transition from previous experience into a career at 3M. The role involves performing advanced setups and operations of conventional CNC machines and machining centers for Tungsten and wet machining, while adhering to strict tolerances.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma / GED or higher (completed prior to start)
  • CNC machining experience.
  • Experience with Hardinge talent 42 (Live tooling), Mori Seki, Hardinge Super precision & Okuma 3000 LB (Live tooling)
  • Ability to run 2 machines.
  • Experience cutting Tungsten Moly Kovar Stainless Aluminum
  • Fluent in G & M Codes (Fanuc Controls)
  • Experience with CNC Lathes & Mill Lathes
  • Responsible for quality checks – AQL every 25ps
  • Perform set ups
  • Experience using tolerances of + or - .0002
  • Associate's degree from two-year college or technical school; or five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience in CNC Machinist.
  • Must be able to read and interpret drawings, follow routers, use math to perform basic calculations, and use basic handheld measuring tools.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in country of employment without sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1B status).

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced CNC programming skills along with ability to operate a hand lathe.
  • Works under minimal supervision based on task proficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Performs advanced CNC machining related to forming and shaping of dispenser cathode emitting surfaces and bodies while holding tolerances, such as, +0 -.002 and operating multiple machines.
  • Performs basic machine maintenance and trouble shooting.
  • Follows work instructions and method sheets.
  • Utilizes grinders to shape and sharpen tools, making or selecting collets, surface finish comparison and analysis, referencing work instructions, method sheets and engineering prints to meet quality, productivity and efficiency of each operation sequence.
  • Uses small hand tools along with constant work under a microscope to assemble all part types.
  • Participates in all safety and regulatory training needed to fulfill the duties of the position.
  • Follows all plant safety rules and regulations, wears PPE as required per procedures.
  • Complies with corporate policies, procedures and security standards while performing assigned duties.
  • Contributes to a strong Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) culture by following safety policies, identifying hazards, and engaging in continuous improvement.
