CNC Machinist (Night Shift)

ALIGN PRECISIONCottondale, AL
Onsite

About The Position

This position is a night shift position. The schedule is Monday - Thursday, 4:30pm - 3:00am. The role involves setting up, operating, and maintaining CNC milling and turning centers to manufacture aerospace and defense components. This requires interpreting complex engineering drawings, specifications, and quality standards, as well as selecting and adjusting cutting tools, fixtures, and work-holding devices for various aerospace materials. The machinist will perform in-process and final inspections using precision measuring instruments, deburr and finish parts to aerospace standards, and accurately document production data within the ERP system. Responsibilities also include setting up and running parts of varying complexity, supporting prototype and experimental manufacturing, collaborating with engineering and quality teams, and actively participating in continuous improvement initiatives. Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work environment is crucial.

Requirements

  • 5–6 years of CNC machining experience, preferably in aerospace and/or defense manufacturing
  • High school diploma or equivalent with advanced machining or technical training
  • Strong understanding of aerospace drawings, GD&T, and customer specifications
  • Proven ability to hold tight tolerances and work with precision components
  • Proficiency using precision measurement tools (micrometers, calipers, height gauges, indicators, etc.)
  • Solid math skills, including fractions, decimals, and basic geometry
  • Working knowledge of ERP systems and manufacturing documentation practices
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot machining processes
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to quality and compliance
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams
  • Safety-focused mindset with strict adherence to policies and procedures
  • Commitment to maintaining a clean, organized, and controlled work environment
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods during shifts
  • Frequent use of hands and arms to handle tools, materials, and equipment
  • Specific vision abilities required, including close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with first article inspections (FAI) and quality documentation is a plus
  • Understanding of AS9100, ITAR, or other regulated manufacturing environments is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Set up, operate, and maintain CNC milling and turning centers to manufacture aerospace and defense components in accordance with complex engineering drawings, specifications, and quality standards
  • Interpret detailed job routings, blueprints, GD&T, tool lists, and work instructions with a strong focus on accuracy and repeatability
