Remote | CNC Machinist — $80–$120/hour
About The Position
We are sharing a specialised consulting opportunity for experienced CNC Machinists with strong expertise in machine setup and operation, Haas controls, precision measurement, blueprint interpretation, GD&T, troubleshooting, and production optimisation to contribute to an advanced AI training and manufacturing-evaluation project. Selected professionals will apply hands-on machining expertise to realistic CNC production scenarios across industrial and desktop platforms, interpret engineering documentation, validate dimensional accuracy, troubleshoot machining issues, and provide expert feedback on manufacturability and process quality. No prior experience in AI is required.
Requirements
- 5+ years of hands-on CNC machining experience
- Strong experience with CNC setup and production
- Demonstrated expertise with Haas control systems
- Experience with Haas VF-2 or comparable industrial platforms
- Strong blueprint-reading and GD&T interpretation skills
- Proficiency with calipers, micrometers, indicators, CMMs, and related inspection equipment
- Practical experience machining metals and plastics
- Strong troubleshooting and process-optimisation skills
- Excellent written and verbal English communication
- Strong attention to dimensional accuracy, safety, and process consistency
Nice To Haves
- Familiarity with desktop or hobbyist CNC platforms such as Makera Carvera is highly valuable
- No prior AI-training or model-evaluation experience is required
Responsibilities
- Set up and operate CNC machines across industrial and desktop platforms
- Configure tooling, work-holding, offsets, machining parameters, and CNC programs
- Apply practical expertise with Haas controls, including VF-2 or comparable systems
- Support first-piece and repeat-production workflows across metals, plastics, and varied geometries
- Adapt machining approaches to different machine capabilities and production requirements
- Inspect machined parts against engineering drawings and specifications
- Use calipers, micrometers, indicators, CMMs, and related measurement tools
- Interpret blueprints, tolerances, datums, and GD&T callouts
- Translate drawing requirements into machining and inspection decisions
- Identify dimensional deviations, ambiguous requirements, or manufacturability concerns
- Diagnose tool wear, chatter, dimensional drift, setup instability, and other machining issues
- Identify root causes and adjust tooling, feeds, speeds, offsets, or work-holding as needed
- Evaluate setup strategy, machining feasibility, and process reliability
- Recommend improvements to cycle efficiency, quality, and manufacturability
