Remote | FreeCAD Expert — $40–$80/hour
About The Position
We are sharing a specialised part-time consulting opportunity for experienced CAD professionals with strong expertise in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, industrial design, and multi-part assembly analysis to contribute to an advanced AI training project focused on engineering design interpretation. Selected professionals will analyse complex CAD assemblies provided in native FreeCAD format and develop technically precise, objective question-and-answer content grounded in real engineering data. The work requires strong understanding of geometry, assembly relationships, technical drawings, and engineering function, with an emphasis on creating assessment-ready content that can be verified directly against the source designs.
Requirements
- Extensive background in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, industrial design, or a closely related discipline
- Strong foundational knowledge of CAD principles and engineering design interpretation
- Significant experience working with multi-part assemblies
- Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings and technical design intent
- Familiarity with FreeCAD or comparable CAD platforms
- Strong technical writing and communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to author detailed technical questions, training content, or assessment material
- Meticulous attention to detail and commitment to objective, high-quality technical work
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively in a remote environment
- Professional profile consistent with expert-level engineering or consulting work

- Direct FreeCAD experience is advantageous but not mandatory
Responsibilities
- Review complex multi-part CAD assemblies and interpret their geometry, component relationships, and engineering function
- Analyse native FreeCAD files and associated technical design information
- Identify important features, interfaces, and dependencies between assembly components
- Apply mechanical engineering principles when interpreting design intent and assembly behaviour
- Evaluate technical details with a high degree of precision and consistency
- Author objective, precise, and non-guessable questions based on provided CAD assemblies
- Develop several technically meaningful questions per assembly
- Ensure each question requires application of domain expertise rather than surface-level observation
- Structure questions so that each has an exact and verifiable answer
- Maintain strong alignment between technical prompts and the underlying assembly data
- Produce clear, accurate, and well-supported answers to each technical question
- Verify that answers are directly grounded in the source CAD files and engineering information
- Review geometry, component relationships, and technical drawings to confirm correctness
- Identify and document ambiguity before finalising conclusions
- Maintain high standards for technical accuracy, consistency, and assessment readiness
- Collaborate asynchronously through written and verbal communication
- Clarify requirements and respond to feedback throughout the authoring process
- Document technical insights, uncertainties, and ambiguities encountered during analysis
- Contribute to iterative improvement of question sets and project workflows
- Communicate complex engineering concepts clearly and concisely
